Plan for Assessment of Student Academic Achievement
III. Principles of Assessment of Student Academic Achievement
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Assessment Plan
was developed under the following general principles which will guide
the conduct of all assessment activity.
- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is committed to
the task of assessing student achievement to enhance student learning.
- Assessment activities will be directly linked to and
consistent with the University's mission and goals, and specifically,
the goals of General Education, each major, and the Baccalaureate Degree.
- The assessment plan will provide direction and guidance
for appropriate change in the curriculum and related student experiences.
- Assessment will foster an opportunity for UW-Eau Claire
to focus continually on the effectiveness of the institution in meeting
its goals.
- Assessment activities will be guided and approved by
the faculty.
- Academic departments are responsible for assessment of
the majors; a record of curricular changes made as a result of the review
of assessment data will be maintained.
- Multiple measures will be used to assess student academic
achievement. No one method can provide sufficient data to reflect the
University's goals and, specifically the goals of General Education,
each major, and the Baccalaureate Degree; thus, multiple measurements
should provide data on which the institution can rely.
- Reviewing assessment results will foster collaborative
discussion that will provide an impetus for curricular discussion and
reform where appropriate.
- Assessment data will be used in long-range planning and
in decision-making.
- Assessment data will be made available to those most
closely involved in and responsible for the learning that is related
to the data. It is not intended to use data to make comparisons across
departments or schools.
