The assessment of student learning begins with a university making public and explicit educational values and learner outcomes. The purpose of assessing student learning is to collect data about student achievement, and use it to provide useful information about the effectiveness of our teaching and the design of our degree programs.
On the institutional level, UW-Eau Claire faculty have defined expectations for students learning in terms of the Baccalaureate Goals. These are eleven broad goals with learning outcomes that specify what students should be able to know and do. Likewise, departments and programs have goals and learner outcomes for their students. Many of the program level goals and outcomes align with the institutional outcomes.
