The Foster Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is located in the Haas Fine Arts Center, 121 Water Street. A variety of art exhibitions, including works of faculty, BFA degree candidates, and internationally known artists, are open to the public each year. An exhibition of the tools and images of the first great information revolution: letterpress printing. Founded in 1880, within 20 years the Hamilton Type Company of Two Rivers, WI became the largest manufacturer of wood type in the USA, aided by the abundance of wood found in Wisconsin forests. Wood type, broadsides and more on display.
Australian artist Catherine Schieve combines hieroglyphics as musical score and art-various forms of music performed in traditional and experimental methods, both instrumental and vocal, to visual cues in a forty foot two dimensional painting.
Opening reception: Wednesday February 19, 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Musical performance at 8:00 pm.
57th Annual Juried Student Art Show
Submissions open to February 28, 12:00 pm
Eligibility: All credit-bearing students enrolled at UWEC during the current academic year, including December graduates, are eligible to enter artwork into the Annual Juried Student Art Show. Submitted works must have been completed during their time as a UWEC student. Students may enter three artworks that were completed after February 1, 2013. (Other works that are part of a collaborative piece may be submitted, but no more than 5 artworks total may have your name on them). Artworks submitted in last year’s jurying may not be resubmitted.
