Math Competency
Math 111 or Math 112 (C or higher, not C-; or S); or satisfactory placement test or competency test score.
Foreign Language/Foreign Culture Requirement
Three options (details in 2002 catalogue P.42):
- Foreign language competency at the 102-level (or CDIS 303)
- Study Abroad
- 9 credits or courses with foreign culture designation
GE I. Communications.
6 minimum to 9 maximum credits with at least 3 credits from Subcategory A and 3 credits from Subcategory B. (6 credits are required and no more than 9 may be used toward the total of 45 GE credits.)
Subcategory A Language Skills: AIS 111, 112, Communication; English (language and composition courses, excluding Engl 110 and 112); Foreign Languages (language and composition courses); GE IA IDIS courses
Subcategory B Analytical Skills: Computer Science (CS 163, 170, 318, 319); Mathematics (Math 111, or Math 114 or higher; not 112, 203, 204, 245, 305); Philosophy (logic courses); GE IB IDIS courses
GE II. Natural Sciences.
15 credits, no more, no fewer (including two lab courses from approved list), from at least two of the six subcategories
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Geography (physical)
- Geology
- Physics
- Interdisciplinary studies-National sciences
GE III. Social Sciences.
9 minimum to 12 maximum credits from at least two of the seven subcategories
- Anthropology
- Economics
- Geography (cultural)
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Sociology
- Interdisciplinary studies-Social sciences (including AIS 101, Wmns 310, 433, 440)
GE IV Humanities.
9 minimum to 12 maximum credits from at least two of the five subcategories
- Fine Arts (Art, Art History, Music, Music Therapy, Theatre Arts, Dance)
- Philosophy (not logic), Religious Studies
- History
- English (literature), Foreign Languages (literature and civilization)
- Interdisciplinary studies-Humanities (including AIS 102, HUMS, IDIS, INTS, WMNS)
GE V Humanities.
0 Minimum to 6 Maximum credits
(new GE category to include courses from Colleges of Business and Professional Studies; interdisciplinary courses that cross two or more of the GE categories I, II, III, IV)
9 upper-level GE credits
from courses in at least two of the five GE categories (I, II, III, IV, V). May be included in 45 total GE credits.
