UW-Eau Claire leads state in study
abroad participation
More UW-Eau Claire students participated
in international study
programs than students at any other master's level institution
in Wisconsin for the 2000-01 academic year, according to
a recently released report by the Institute of International
Education. Read

UW-Eau Claire receives $275,000
GeoGraphix software grant
Thanks to a one-year grant worth
almost $275,000, UW-Eau Claire students in the department
of geography and anthropology and the geology department
will continue to benefit from training and equipment that
few universities can offer. Harry Jol, associate professor
of geography, and Colin Shaw, assistant professor of geology,
were notifed that UW-Eau Claire has been awarded the grant
for GeoGraphix software from the Landmark Graphics Corp.
The software is used with the ground penetrating radar equipment
that recently brought Jol and UW-Eau Claire international
attention when he and and UW-Eau Claire student used it
to assist with a major archaeological find in Israel. Read

Family of alumni supports
College of Business Cyberlab
UW-Eau
Claire alumni Peter Scobie and Robert Giles, two cousins
at the helm of their Eau Claire family business, have pledged
$25,000 to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation in support of the
College of Business Cyberlab. Peter's father, Robert Scobie,
who attended UW-Eau Claire (then Eau Claire State Teachers
College) in the 1930s, also has pledged annual contributions
to the project. Read

dollar by a UW System grant that supports technology for
business schools. The pledges and matching funds are recognized
as gifts to Fulfilling
the Promise of Excellence, UW-Eau Claire's comprehensive
fund-raising campaign to secure $35 million in support of

Summer Session 2003 registration
to begin
Registration for Summer Session 2003 opened Feb. 3 for enrolled
UW-Eau Claire students, and others can explore summer educational
opportunities when open registration begins Feb. 18. The
university will offer more than 220 undergraduate and graduates
courses this summer, including 21 Web-based courses. (See

Lopez departs for UCLA, Anderson
named interim admissions director
Robert
Lopez, UW-Eau Claire's former executive director of enrollment
services and director of admissions, left Jan. 25 to take
a lead position with the UCLA football program. Kristina
Anderson,who had been associate director of admissions since
fall 2001, was named interim director of admissions. Read

Tribute
to Champions draws good crowd
It was a big day back on campus for UW-Eau
Claire's Tribute to Champions events Jan. 25. More than
40 former men's and women's basketball players participated
in the morning alumni basketball games, and 94 alumni and
friends attended the afternoon Tailgate Party in Davies
Center. Alumni from former conference championship teams
were later honored during halftime at the Blugold men's
and women's varsity basketball games. See photos from the

Art trip to New York
Alumni and friends
are invited to join the UW-Eau Claire art department's annual
spring trip to New York March 14-23, 2003. The trip is an
opportunity for students, faculty, alumni and friends to
explore art, music, theater, food and the sights of Manhattan
and the Burroughs. The cost of the trip — $500 with
student ID (quads), $550 for all others (quads) or $750
for doubles — includes round-trip motor coach transportation
and seven nights in a mid-town hotel within blocks of Central

Arizona golf outing, receptions

Park, 880 E. Second St., Tucson, Ariz.
- Phoenix
area golf outing:
Plan to attend the Alumni Associaton's golf outing
and/or picnic on Saturday, March 22, at West Brook Village Vista
Golf Course, Peoria, Ariz. You will join hosts Ken and Gloria
Anderson, as well as Chancellor Donald Mash and many UW-Eau
Claire alumni and friends. Arrange tee times and payment (approximate
golf outing cost: $52) by calling Ken Anderson at (623) 566-5851.
The picnic will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Vistas Restaurant
(picnic cost: $10 adults, $5 children). Picnic reservations

Phoenix reception: A luncheon
reception for UW-Eau Claire alumni and friends in the Phoenix

Special day for Golden
Blugolds
UW-Eau Claire alumni who graduated in 1953 or earlier earn
the honorary title of "Golden Blugold" and are

Chancellor Donald Mash, to receive a special Golden Blugold
pin and to attend the 11:30 a.m. luncheon in your honor.
