Harris (Bob) Grinde '76 and Debra (Meffert) Grinde '76
We were high school sweethearts from Waunakee, Wis. Debby attended UW-La Crosse her freshman year, transferring to UW-Eau Claire after that to join Bob. We were married after our sophomore year, on May 25, 1974, and both graduated two years later. After our first jobs, Debby as a teacher and Bob as a nurseryman, we migrated back to Eau Claire and started Grinde's Garden Center Inc., which will celebrate its 25th year in business in spring 2008. In addition to raising a son, we also started a registered Black Angus business, Grinde's Sandcountry Angus, 10 years ago. Then, just for fun, in addition to traveling to Mexico in the winter, we started roasting coffee beans to be sold by the pound at our garden center this spring for the first time — a venture we've called Grindes' Fresh Roasted Coffee. UW-Eau Claire gave us the confidence and education to pursue our dreams — and 34 years later, we're still doing that. |
