Alphabetized List of Verb Endings from
Baraga's 1878 Otchipwe Grammar

This list, based on the list of endings in Portage Lake: Memories of an Ojibwe Childhood, by Maude Kegg , edited by John D. Nichols, was prepared by Sarah Wandersee, under the direction of Dr. Lawrence T. Martin.

Nishnaabemwin Reference Grammar, by J. Randolph Valentine, was used as a reference in the preparation of this document.

This list can be used in conjunction with the Verb Paradigm Chart on the online version of Baraga's Grammar available on this Website.

This should be considered a work in progress. It is not always completely clear how Baraga's grammatical categories should be converted to modern Ojibwe grammatical terminology. Also in a work of this kind and length, typographical errors are inevitable. If you notice any errors, please feel free to contact us at the information below.

Note that the alphabetical list of endings is followed by a few helpful notes, including some paradigms of "defective" verbs.
