The Visiting Minority Scholar/Artist Program was established in response to a recommendation made by the Chancellor's Task Force on Minority Recruitment and Retention. This recommendation had called for the development of visiting professorships to help provide academic departments the flexibility to search continually for minority faculty. Since its inception in the fall of 1994, the program has provided the opportunity for faculty, students and community members to interact with numerous scholars and artists from those racial and ethnic groups which have been traditionally underrepresented in the U.S. workforce. Discussion has encompassed a wide variety of issues, including issues related to people of color.
