Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST II)

Wisconsin requires that all students completing their professional education programs after August 31, 2004 take the specific Praxis II: Subject Assessments in their license area in order to qualify for a state education license. The content tests are available ONLY as paper/pencil tests.

1. Which tests are needed?

Tests for Middle Childhood/Early Education majors and Special Education majors

The ETS site also has information about tests needed for licensing in other states. NOTE: Minnesota testing requirements differ significantly from those of Wisconsin.

2. When must the exams be completed by?

Students must have passed the Praxis II content exam prior to being admitted into the professional semester. Specifically:

  • For placements in the fall semester, the last test date for the Praxis II Content Exam is the preceding January date.
  • For placements in the spring semester, the last test date for the Praxis II Content Exam is the preceding June date.
  • For placements in the summer session, the last test date for the Praxis II Content Exam is the preceding November date.

3. What is the content of the examinations?

"Test at a Glance" booklets that describe the exam and have sample questions can be downloaded. You can also order study guides with complete tests from ETS.

4. When are the exams given?

The Praxis II is given throughout the country on selected Saturdays.

Listed below are the dates the Praxis II will be given at UW-Eau Claire. The registration deadline is for receipt in New Jersey. Allow ten days for mail to get there.

5. How do I register and how much does it cost?

    1. You can register online at www.ets.org/praxis/register. Please print out the confirmation.
    2. The cost is $130.00. This is $80 for the test and a $50 registration fee. If you register on the web, the $50 will not show up until the very end.
    3. If your major/minor combination requires two tests in session 1 or session 2, they cannot be taken on the same day. Session 1 tests begin at 7:30 a.m. Session 2 tests begin at 10:45 and end at 1:30.
    4. UW-Eau Claire’s score recipient code is RA 1913. You do not have to put down a code for the Wisconsin Department of Instruction. Just send the scores to UW-Eau Claire.
    5. The results will take 4 to 6 weeks. They will appear on MyBlugold within a few days of UW-Eau Claire receiving them.
