quantity, and cost of online courses)

Nurturing Thought:
Just for Today
Just for today – I will live through the next 12 hours and not try to tackle all of life’s problems at once.
Just for today -I will improve my mind.  I will learn something useful.  I will read something that requires thought and concentration.
Just for today - I will be agreeable.  I will look my best, speak in a well-modulated voice, and be courteous and considerate.
Just for today - I will not find fault with friend, relative or colleague.  I will not try to change or improve anyone but myself.
Just for today - I will do a good turn and keep it a secret.  If anyone finds out, it won’t count.
Just for today - I will have a program.  I might not follow it exactly, but I will have it.  I will save myself from two enemies—hurry and indecision.
Just for today - I will do two things I don’t want to do, just because I need the discipline.
Just for today - I will believe in myself.  I will give my best to the world and feel confident that the world will give its best to me.

Greetings!
I know how you must be feeling with the end of the semester rapidly approaching and many projects to finish. The end of the spring semester is always especially busy for me, too, with extra activities on campus.  I love it, though, and hope you, too, in the midst of all the craziness, are finding moments in which you can enjoy your experience here and appreciate the awesomeness that you are a student at UW-Eau Claire!  Just remember during those times of stress and feelings of being overwhelmed, there are resources on campus to help you--the Academic Skills Center, Counseling Services, support groups--just let me know how I can help and I'll point you in the right direction.

Tip from a nontrad on Badger Care Plus health insurance for families:
“the other part of its coverage is dental coverage, however it unfortunately does not reimburse dental offices dollar for dollar or coverage is very limited for dental procedures. I would encourage persons interested in this type of coverage to ask lots of questions about coverage and where they will find providers to accept this type of insurance.”

Student Parent Group Brown Bag, Thursday, April 24th 12:10-1:00 p.m. in the Potawatomi Room of Davies Center.  Get together with other nontradtional students to share your parenting joys and woes.  Having the support of other students who are also parents can be the one thing that keeps you going and keeps you motivated!  Plan to be there and bring your lunch.

Mark Your Calendar and Plan to Attend:
End of year picnic for nontraditional students and their families, Friday, May 9th, 5:00 p.m. at the Oak Pavilion in Carson Park.  Potluck—bring a dish to pass and your own drink and utensils.  Hosted by the UWEC Children’s Center.

Commencement tickets now available for pick up at the Service Center in Davies Center.  If you are not planning on attending the commencement ceremony, please let me know if you would be willing to share your tickets with other nontraditional students who are looking for additional tickets.  Several students have asked me to help them find additional tickets.

Hello All,

I am starting a new section in my newsletter called, “Kudos to Nontrads”.  As I hear about special recognition and awards of nontraditional students at UWEC I will highlight that information in our newsletter.  It is important for us to recognize and acknowledge all the great accomplishments that you as nontraditional students are achieving and to celebrate with each other!  Please let me know of your successes so that I may share that with the others. For those of you who are blessed enough to be graduating this May, you will want to read the information on the following website which includes everything pertaining to commencement that you need to know.  http://www.uwec.edu/activities/commencement/index.htm.

If you are NOT planning on attending the commencement ceremony, please remember to share your commencement tickets with other nontraditional students who are looking for additional tickets so that all of their family members can attend the ceremony with them.  Just email me and let me know if you have tickets to share and for which ceremony.  We thank you!

Hi Everyone and Welcome Back from Spring Break!
I hope that you all had a great week off and a nice Easter.  I had a good week of office catch-up and spring cleaning and also a couple of days at home (with the stomach flu, unfortunately).  But I was well enough to see my grandchildren over the weekend, which was a blessing.

Kathy and I spent time cleaning and organizing your Oasis Room.  We now have two bulletin boards, one with campus information and activities and the other for community information.  I ask that we not tape anything to the walls any longer, as some of the paint has come off when we take down items that have been taped on.  A can of coffee grounds and filters was donated so feel free to cook a pot of coffee when you are in there.  The refrigerator has some “overdue” items in there, so please, if you left anything in there, clean it out today.  We will clean out the refrigerator tomorrow and toss anything that is not currently dated.  We have a printer in the room again.  Remember to provide your own printer paper and to print any major projects in the computer labs.

CALLING ALL PARENTS!   A new Parent Support Group is gathering on Thursday, March 27th for our first  brown bag gathering.  If you would like to get together with other students who are parents to share thoughts, ideas, concerns, meet other parents-- join us in the Alumni Room of Davies Center (upper level) between 11:30 and 1:30 this Thursday.  Come for as little or as long as your schedule allows.

SIGN UP NOW FOR THE HOT DOG LUNCH AND PLANETARIUM SHOW COMING UP SATURDAY:
Saturday, March 29th, Sigma Gamma Zeta II will sponsor a Family Activity for nontraditional students and their families on campus.  We will begin with a Planetarium showing of “Larry Cat in Space” (a playful, imaginative cartoon presentation about an inquisitive cat who takes a trip to the moon) at 11:00  a.m. (geared for age 10 and younger).  A hot dog lunch will be served from 11:30-12:30 in the Children’s Center.  Then at 12:30, the Planetarium will show “Mr. Genius Tours the Solar System”, (for ages 10 and up) will be shown.  Cost for the show and lunch will be only $2 per family. Seating is limited so please RSVP to me by this Wednesday with the show you are interested in attending and the number in your family planning to attend.

Alumni Association Scholarship Deadline is March 28.  Two $500 scholarships are awarded. Applications are available in the Alumni Office, Schofield Hall, room 213.  Eligibility criteria: junior or senior as of fall 2008; minimum 3.5 g.p.a.; campus and community leadership.

SEVERAL scholarship applications are coming due in April.  Please pay close attention to the deadline dates on the scholarships for nontraditional students at our website: http://www.uwec.edu/advising/nss/scholar.htm.  Most of the scholarships have online application forms, so applying is very easy.  Remember to also look for scholarships which may be available in the department of your major.

April 8   Last day to file withdrawal from the University with “W”s and also the last day to withdraw from individual full-semester classes.  If you withdraw April 4 or later, you will not owe a repayment of financial aid.

Spring Final Exam Schedule is now available on MyBlugold.

Registration for Fall semester will begin April 7th.  Check on MyBlugold for your registration date and time.  Meet with your adviser in advance to select classes you should be registering for.

Now is the time to renew your FAFSA for next year.  Many scholarship applications request a current FAFSA on file.  If you have questions on applying for Financial Aid, email me or stop in the Financial Aid Office, Schofield Hall 115, or call 836-3373.

If you have extra commencement tickets to share or if you are in need of additional tickets, let me know for which ceremony (a.m. or p.m.) and the number needed or extra.  I am starting a list and hope to help out those who need additional tickets.
