Nontraditional Student Services

Nontraditional Student Services (NSS) provides information and services to meet the needs of nontraditional students at UW-Eau Claire. Contact the Nontraditional Student Services Office at 715-836-3259 or stop by Schofield 226.

Advising and Advocacy - The Nontraditional Student Services Office serves as the academic advising office for all admitted, special and nontraditional students and is here to assist you with all your questions or concerns throughout your career at UWEC.

Email Communication - A weekly newsletter from the NSS adviser will be sent to each nontraditonal student's email account. For information on how to get started with the university's Email system, see the NSS website Email and Technology link: www.uwec.edu/Advising/nss/Orientation/tech.htm.

Workshops - Scholarship Writing Tips and other topical workshops are offered throughout the semester. See website.

Scholarship Information - Find information on local, state, and national scholarships for nontraditional students in “Pennies From Heaven.”  Check out our website: www.uwec.edu/advising/nss/scholar.htm. These scholarships, and many others, can also be found on the UWEC Financial Aid web-page: http://www.uwec.edu/finaid. OASIS - A space to gather, relax, study, and meet other nontraditional students on campus.  A microwave and refrigerator are available for your use.  The OASIS is located in Davies Center, 127.

Student Locator Service - Let us to know where you are when you’re not in class by filling out a “Student Locator Form”.  Leave your family or child care provider the NSS number, 836-3259, and we can access your class schedule and contact you in case of an emergency. See website.

Adult Student Peer Mentor Program - Nontraditional Student Services sponsors an Adult Student Peer Mentoring Program.  Adult Student Peer Mentors provide information, assistance, referral and encouragement to the new students (the “Mentees”), as well as serve as an informal connection to the university learning community during their first semester. Sigma Gamma Zeta II - The academic honor society for nontraditional students.  Each year eligible students are invited to join and a spring reception and meeting is held.  The society sponsors activities and a scholarship each year for members. See website.

Nontraditional Student Advisory Committee - The Provost and Vice Chancellor has established this Committee to advise Administration on issues of particular importance or concern to nontraditional students.  Students wishing to serve on the Committee should contact the NSS Adviser at 836-3259..
