Family Activities

Getting your whole family involved in your education can be a tremendous source of support and motivation. The university offers many activities for you and your family. Spouses can get a Blugold ID card for $10.00 and use it much as a student. The whole family can enjoy the Artists and Forum Series, as well as university musical, theatrical, athletic events, films, lectures, and cultural events. Some family activities include:

ARTIST & FORUM SERIES: Davies Center 133, 715-836-3727

The Artists Series presents professional performances in music, art, and dance throughout the school year. The Forum Series features lectures, debates and panel discussions by national personalities from a variety of backgrounds. Contact the University Service Center in Davies Center for information regarding tickets,

CAMPUS FILMS: Davies Theatre, 836-4805

The UAC Film Committee and International Film Society work together to present the finest foreign and domestic films.  Since 1957, the series has represented various countries, cinematic styles, directorial methods, genres and point of view in films that help to foster a better understanding of other people and cultures, as well as lifelong appreciation for the art of film.  Tickets are $1 for UW-Eau Claire students and $2 for others. A CHILD'S PROGRAMMING:

On the internet is a Pre-College Program Directory: Opportunities for Wisconsin Youth. Find this resource for year-round programming for children and adolescents at: www.uwhelp.wisconsin.edu/. From there click on "Gearing Up for College" and then "Pre-college Program Directory." UW-Eau Claire lists more than 35 youth programs throughout the year.

HILLTOP RECREATION CENTER: Hilltop 106, 715-836-3377

The center rents to students a wide variety of year-round sports and camping equipment and has billiards, bowling, and video game facilities available for student/family use. There are also Nautilus, swimming, tennis, gym, track, and racquetball facilities available on campus. A telephone recording called
"Rec-Check" is available by calling 715-836-2000.

THE L.E. PHILLIPS PLANETARIUM: Phillips Science Building, Room 1

The planetarium is located in the J.N. Clark Museum in Phillips Hall. Programs for the public are scheduled regularly. Tickets can be purchased at the Davies Service Center 715-836-3727. Cost is $1 per person.

JAMES NEWMAN CLARK BIRD MUSEUM: Phillips Science Building, Room 1

The museum contains 530 specimens of native birds. The museum is open to the public Monday through Friday and at other times by appointment. For more information, contact the Biology Department at 715-836-4166.

PUTNAM TRAIL:

This nature trail is located behind the Davies Center parking lot. Printed guides for the trail are available from the Campus Information Services in Davies Center 161.

ART EXHIBITS AND MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS:

Student and faculty music recitals and art gallery presentations are scheduled throughout the school year. Watch the student newspaper, the Spectator, for dates and times.

NATIONAL YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM: University Recreation, 715-836-3377

The NYSP is a summer day camp for boys and girls ages 10-16. Camp lasts five weeks and is available at no cost. Free physical exam is required and pre-registration is necessary.
