Getting Your Books

The Instructional Resource Rental (IRR) Center is located in the bookstore. Your segregated fees pay for a rental textbook in almost all courses. Many courses do require some purchased books.

Important information about textbooks:

  • To pick up your books you must have your Blugold Card and your class schedule. Your class schedule will indicate what books you need for each course.
  • Rental text books may be picked up each semester starting two weeks before classes begin.
  • You can fill out a form after you register for the next term so that the Bookstore will "bundle" your books and have them waiting for you. Otherwise, you find them on the shelf yourself.
  • You must return your rental texts on or before the last day of final exams to avoid fines.
  • If you wish to purchase your rental texts, several weeks are set aside every semester when rental materials may be purchased for 25% off their replacement price. This discount period will begin three weeks into the beginning of each term, and will end three weeks before the end of the period.
  • Keep all receipts. A full refund for purchased books will be given during the first week of classes, with a sales receipt. A full refund will be given up to 30 days after the start of classes, with a sales receipt and proof of schedule change.

Getting Your I.D.

Once you've paid your $100 down payment and registered for classes, get your Blugold I.D. card from the Blugold Card Office in Davies Center 156, next to the Information/Service Center. Getting an I.D. should be a priority.

You will need that Blugold card for several things: renting your textbooks, checking out library materials, riding the Eau Claire city buses for free and purchasing discounted tickets for university events.

Your Blugold Card can also be a "debit card." You can deposit money in your Blugold account and have it available to you on your card to be used for everything from food in a cafeteria, to pop out of a machine, to mailing a package at the Service Center.

Spouses can get a Blugold ID card for $10.00 and use it much as a student does.

NOTE: If you were previously a student at UWEC and have an ID card you may need to replace your card. ID cards issued prior to fall 2005 will no longer be valid.

Campus Parking . . . or Park and Ride

Parking is always a topic of discussion --and sometimes frustration-on university campuses and UWEC is no exception.

Parking Permit
Parking permits are required in all University lots between 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. or as posted. Parking permits can be purchased from the Parking Office located in Schneider Hall 106, 836-2002, website: www.uwec.edu/parking  (currently $95.00 for the 2008-2009 year).  Make sure you park in a student (S) spot. After 3:00 p.m. each day, permit parking lots are open to all vehicles without a permit, but do not park in “GF” (Guaranteed Faculty) slots without a “GF” sticker – you will be ticketed. Parking is tight during peak hours but spots can usually be found on the Fine Arts or Water Street Lots.  An Economy Commuter Student Permit (E) allows you to park in Bollinger Fields lot (on Stein Blvd) and ride the bus to campus that runs 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday (E permit is currently $50 for the 2008-2009 year).

Metered Parking
No permits are required in metered zones, but meters on lower campus are enforced 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. from Monday-Friday and cost 50¢ per hour.  Meters on upper campus and on Garfield Avenue are enforced from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. seven days a week.  Meters are enforced year round! Be sure to follow parking instructions closely as tickets will be issued and fines are expensive!  Up to four tickets can be issued (one per hour) per day.

University Bus System
All UWEC students only need to present their Blugold Card to ride any city bus anytime, anywhere for free.  Check out the University Bus System schedule online at: www.uwec.edu/parking/busing.htm.

Campus Ride Board
If you want to carpool….ride boards are located in Davies, Towers, Hilltop, and on the UW-Eau Claire website.  Check out the website at: http://www.uwec.edu/rideboard. You can also leave a message in the OASIS Room.

Conveyance Vehicles for Student with Disabilities
Students who have a temporary or permanent disability can obtain rides between upper and lower campus and a shuttle between academic buildings.  Call 836-2544 during times below to schedule a ride.

Monday-Thursday       7:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Friday                         7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
