Go Back to 1st Year Requirements for All Majors

Chemistry with Business Emphasis
First Year Advising 2008-2009

Printable Version Printable Version

Chemistry with a Business Emphasis is a comprehensive major.

Chemistry courses are, in the main, sequential. Upper-division courses have chemistry, math and physics prerequisites that must be satisfied during the first two years if possible.

COURSE SELECTION
UW-Eau Claire respects individual differences. This guide complements rather than substitutes for individual advising.

ESSENTIAL COURSES
We recommend that students complete the following courses during the first year:

Semester I
Chem 115 Chemical Principles (6 cr.)
Math 111 Short Course in Calculus (4 cr.)
or
Math 114 Calculus & Analytic Geometry I
Econ 103 Principles of Microeconomics (3 cr.)

Semester II
Chem 213 Quantitative Analysis (4 cr.)
Engl 110 Introduction to College Writing (5 cr.)
Econ 104 Principles of Macroeconomics (3 cr.)

Students may also take Chem 103 and Chem 104 during their first year, depending on their high school chemistry and math preparation (see Program Readiness below). However, taking Chem 103 and 104 instead of Chem 115 reduces flexibility for electives in later semesters. Additional courses to complete a full semester load would include electives to carry 15-17 credits per semester.

COURSES TO BE AVOIDED

Chem 100 (Chemistry: Issues & Answers) does not count toward the Chemistry major.
