TIPS FOR USING "COURSE SEARCHING"
Step 5: Obtain any pre-assignments or permissions.
Some courses require permission from the department or the instructor. It is often important to get these early, even before you see an adviser. The most common courses requiring prerequisites include: French 102, 201 and 202; Spanish 102, 201, 202 and some Music classes.
Step 6: Make an appointment with an adviser.
At this time you will receive your PAC (Personal Advising Code). Do this way ahead of your appointment time, especially if you are undeclared.
Step 7: Review your degree audit. (See Degree Audit Guide for help)
Highlight anything you don't understand so you can ask your adviser about these requirements.
Step 8: Choose a long list of courses.
Use the General Education list as an easy guide to what is offered next semester.
Step 9: Use the course searching system periodically to see if your course selections close.
Step 10: Plan a schedule, with alternates. You can download and use the schedule planning worksheets or the Class Schedule form.
Step 11: Register through "MyBlugold" (You can start registering 15 minutes before the time listed)

FAQ
Step 12: Request a new degree audit.
Once you have registered, request a new degree audit to make certain that the courses you chose are meeting the requirements you thought they would.
Step 13: Persistence pays off.
If you do not get the schedule you want, keep checking the course searching system. It is especially helpful to check during semester break. Students change their schedules once grades come out and others decide not to come back. Students who are persistent generally get an acceptable schedule.
Step 14: Check your schedule once grades come out.
Once you have received your grades, make certain that your second semester schedule is still appropriate. In general, at least a C is expected in a prerequisite class.

What if I can't afford the $100?

You must pay a $100 deposit for each term. This goes toward you next semester's tuition. If you wish to go to winterim, you must pay a separate $100 deposit.

You can look that up on MyBlugold:
What does a "transcript" hold mean?
You must have any transcripts from high school and any previous colleges you attended on file before you register
Why do I have a "financial" hold? I paid my tuition.
You could have an overdue fine from the library or a fine for unreturned books at the Bookstore, etc., etc. Check with the Cashier's Office, Schofield 108.
It says the course is open on the Course Searching, but when I register for it, the screen says "wait list." What does that mean?
Unfortunately the system will not indicate whether there is a waiting list for a course. Sometimes the course will appear as open, but when you go to register it will indicate "wait list." You must then go to the department and get on the waiting list.
What should I do if a course I really need is closed?
You should call the department to see if there are waiting lists or contact the instructor to see if you can get an overload.
Should I drop a course first and then add?
You should drop and add at the same time. If you drop and add at the same time (changing sections, for example), the system will only drop you from a course if the add is successful. Thus, you don't risk dropping a course and being unable to get back into it.
I'm trying to register for a science course and it keeps asking for a lab section. What am I doing wrong?
You need to register for the lecture and the lab at the same time. Just click on both boxes. In most cases only certain labs go with certain lectures, but you can find this out in the on-line class schedule.
What if I can't register at my appointed time?
If you are unable to register at that time, you may give a list of courses to the Registration Office and they will register you.
