taking an outback excursion through the rainforests of Australia or
learning about the many facets of South African culture and history.
Sound too good to be true? It isn’t. UW-Eau Claire students can choose from programs offered in nearly 50 countries all over the world. National Student Exchange
From Alaska’s beauty to cosmopolitan New York, each
year about 50 UW-Eau Claire students expand the boundaries of their
university by spending part or all of the academic year attending
school in another state.
Opportunities and adventures are available at nearly 190 NSE colleges and universities located in 49 states,
as well as the Virgin Islands, Guam, Canada and Puerto Rico. Through
this learning option, students experience the diversity
of people, culture and geography while being part of an exciting

International/multicultural immersion
At UW-Eau Claire it's a priority to provide our students with meaningful, boundary-crossing multicultural immersion experiences. In addition to our outstanding study-abroad programs and our participation in the National Student Exchange program, UW-Eau Claire students find a variety of additional opportunities to prepare for success as citizens of a connected world. A few recent examples include:
- a monthlong, multidisciplinary summer immersion experience in Turkey for students from any academic major.
- a trip by social work students to eastern Kentucky to learn how coal mining has impacted the region's culture.
- an economics research project in Nicaragua to study the impact of innovative lending programs there.
- a summer research trip to study rice paddies in Cambodia.
- the annual Civil Rights Pilgrimage to the southern United States;
- a women's studies travel seminar to San Francisco to experience the 41st annual Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride celebration.
- trips by future teachers to inner-city public schools in Milwaukee and Minneapolis-St. Paul; and
- a collaboration between UW-Eau Claire students and faculty and their Thai counterparts on a photo exhibit installation in Bangkok.
