Major: International Economics and World History
Minor: Global Studies
Year in School: Senior
Hometown: Plover, WI

Activities/Orgs: I am actively involved in Economics Tutoring, the Honors Program, Student/Faulty Collaborative Research, First Year Experience Mentoring, Intervarsity, Intramural volleyball and football, and residence hall life/government. I have also had the privilege of studying abroad in East Europe during the summer of 2007. I learned about the Cold War “on-site” and visited 8 countries in 3 ½ weeks!
Where will you live in the fall? Chancellors Hall
Any comment on the residence halls experience? My experience in the residence halls has been awesome! I enjoy meeting new types of people and getting involved in residence hall life (this is my 4th year in the residence halls!). My “random” roommate from my freshman year is now one of my best friends, and we are still rooming together!
If you work during school, where? This year I will start an internship with the City of Eau Claire – Economic Development Division. I am so excited about this amazing opportunity to apply the knowledge I have acquired at UWEC!
Best place to study: The 4th floor of McIntyre Library is the best place to study! It is quiet and has plenty of space to spread out – plus it has a great view of the river!
Best thing/place to eat on campus: The Dulany – it is a “fancy” restaurant with delicious food that you can afford on a “college budget.” :) The food is delicious and they always have something new (they even have culturally-themed buffets – Mexican food is my favorite!)
Best place to eat in Eau Claire: The Haymarket Grill – this local restaurant has tremendous atmosphere, great food, and is right in the heart of downtown Eau Claire. The food is all grown by local farmers, and the restaurant makes most of it's menu items from scratch!
Favorite thing to do when you get free time: There is nothing better than taking a nap on the campus mall on beautiful sunny day! I also enjoy running/rollerblading along the Chippewa River Bike Trail – a beautiful four mile loop that showcases both the city and the river, and connects to 30 miles worth of paved trail.
Favorite activity/place off-campus: The Budget Movie Theater is the place you’ll find me on a weekend! You can’t beat a movie for $2.50, especially on a college budget. :)
Favorite activity/place on-campus: I have been to the Viennese Ball on-campus every year. During this event Davies Center (the student union) is transformed into an elegant European ball. There is wonderful music, amazing food, and lots of dancing! Although I am not the best at the waltz, I make sure to leave my mark on the dance floor!
Best class so far: ECON304 – Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory has been my best class so far. As an incoming history major, taking a 300-level economics course is not typical. However, I loved learning the course material and ended up becoming an economics major! The professor changed my views of the world and my life in the process.
Best professor: Professors are actually my favorite part of UW-Eau Claire! I have taken courses with amazing professors and am very comfortable meeting with them outside of class. Professors David Schaffer, Stephen Hill, and Eric Jamelske are just a few of the outstanding faculty I have had the privilege of working with.
Best thing about being a student at UWEC: EVERYTHING! I have had incredible opportunities and amazing experiences that I would have never imagined during my time at UW-Eau Claire. In addition, I have never had so much FUN!!!
Best reason to stay up until 2a.m.: Most of the time, my late nights are spent studying for a big exam or finishing a paper. However, I enjoy watching a good movie and eating popcorn with friends much more.
Why did you pick UWEC? Honestly, UW-Eau Claire was not my first college choice - I was set to go elsewhere. But then I visited and after walking around campus for a day, I knew that this was the right school for me! The competitive academic programs, strong reputation, beautiful campus and friendly people sealed the deal!
Best advice for getting the most out of college: Try everything that you find interesting! Three years ago, I could never have imagined myself doing all of the incredible things I am now doing! When you are here at UW-Eau Claire, you will have countless opportunities and experiences. Don’t be afraid to “step out” and try something totally new!
Best memory/experience in college so far: Last summer, I studied abroad in Central and East Europe. In only 4 weeks, I experienced life in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. I saw history “come alive” as my professors lectured on-site about Cold War history. I went to amazing museums, met with famous national leaders, ate in incredible cafes/restaurants, and even saw an opera. It was one of the best experiences of my life!
Why you want to be on my tour in 5 words or less: I am the restaurant expert of Eau Claire!!! (OOPS, 8 words!)
