Teaching is a people-oriented profession that requires a broad background of experiences and academic preparation. Through a series of courses and experiences, UW-Eau Claire students develop knowledge, process skills and attitudes necessary for effective teaching. At the completion of the program, students are prepared for middle-level grades and high school teaching or for grades K-12 in selected areas.

Students who pursue Option B are required to complete a major and minor, double major or comprehensive major, and a professional sequence consisting of teaching methods and related courses. Completion of the program provides certification to teach at the junior high/middle school, high school and post-high school levels. Following is a list of programs for teaching majors:
Before seeking admission to the program, students choosing Option B must complete CI 210 and CI 211. Upon completion of these courses, students can apply to the program and should file a formal application during the first week of October (for spring admission) or of March (for fall admission). Candidates prepare a portfolio based on the 10 Wisconsin Teaching Standards for the department of curriculum and instruction. Additionally, content departments have requirements for admission. Students are admitted on a selective and limited basis from a pool of candidates who meet minimum criteria.
