Students can put their ideas and creative talent to work during the school year in a variety of theater projects including four or five major productions, two theater for young audiences productions, and 20-30 annual student productions, ranging from classics to contemporary works.
Students have access to outstanding theater facilities including Kjer Theatre, a 400-seat proscenium theatre; Riverside Theatre, a 200-seat thrust stage; and Gantner Hall, a 600-seat concert hall.
Student theater technicians work in two fully equipped wood/plastics/ metals shops.
A modern costume shop provides costumes for most productions, and the department maintains an extensive costume design collection.
The department has four named endowments, which offer scholarships to new and continuing theatre arts students.
Unlike many other public universities, classes are not taught by teaching assistants. Students work alongside interesting professors who inspire learning.
