Academic Programs

Environmental Public Health

  • The environmental public health program at UW-Eau Claire is one of only 24 programs nationwide accredited by The National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council.
  • The program includes specialized courses in environmental public health, such as food and water sanitation, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, environmental toxicology, environmental law, epidemiology and related classes in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.
  • Students gain a well-rounded education through general education courses including communications, humanities and the social sciences.
  • Ideal major for pre-professionals (pre-medicine, pre-veterinary, pre-dentistry, pre-optometry); meets all basic science requirements to enter these programs.
  • Students have access to excellent laboratories with the latest equipment used in environmental public health. Many field trip experiences are incorporated into the environmental health classes.
  • A technology computer laboratory, which is available for most environmental health classes, offers the ability to provide computer-supported instruction using the innovative Desire 2 Learn system.
  • Students gain practical experience and on-the-job training through off-campus summer internships with a health-related agency or industry, learning from the professionals of in the field. Most internships are paid.
  • Unlike many other public universities, classes are not taught by teaching assistants. Students work alongside interesting professors who inspire learning.
  • Small classes, individual attention.
  • Students can participate in the oncampus Student National Environmental Health Association Club, (SNEHA) a student organization affiliated with the National Environmental Health Association.
  • Students also can become members of the Wisconsin Environmental Health Association.
