To aid our graduates in the transition to employment or further education, the economics department sponsors trips to area graduate schools, visits by individuals employed in economics-related occupations and alumni volunteers who serve as mentors.
Through our faculty/student collaborative research program, students can participate in fascinating research projects while working one-on-one with professors in their fields and gaining in-depth knowledge for their careers or graduate school.
The department also sponsors an honors program for economics majors who have achieved a 3.5 grade-point average.
Students have access to the Chippewa Valley Center for Economic Research and Development, which sponsors student and faculty research on the regional economy.
The department sponsors a tutoring program in which upper-level economics majors tutor students who are in beginning economics courses.
The economics honors society, Omicron Delta Epsilon, and the Student Economics Association provide opportunities to gain leadership skills and interact with other economics students and faculty.
During the year prior to graduation, each student completes a capstone project, which draws upon theory, practice and policy. The capstone experience also develops information useful in making career choices.
UW-Eau Claire classes, unlike those at many other public universities, are not taught by teaching assistants. Students work alongside interesting professors who inspire learning.
