Ambassadors represent the University at a variety of campus functions on behalf of Admissions, Alumni and Chancellors Offices. We often give tours to prospective students, parents, alumni, or special guests to the campus. Ambassadors are sometimes the first people visitors meet at the University. We also visit high schools and attend educational fairs in hopes of influencing students to apply for admission to UW-Eau Claire. We help with alumni events and special events as needed on campus.
Campus Ambassadors are volunteer students, from freshmen to seniors, who serve under the auspicies of the Chancellor's office, the Admissions office and the Alumni Office at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
All kinds of students make up the Ambassadors, including resident assistants, hockey players, student government representatives, tuba players, sorority members and forensic champions. Many ambassadors have participated in study abroad programs, service-learning experiences including Alternate Spring Break, and the National Student Exchange Program.
Our majors vary as well. They include Pre-Med, Biology, Music, Theatre Arts, English, Business, Political Science, Communication, Chemistry, Education, Psychology, Creative Writing, Communication Disorders, Religion, and almost every other major.
Ambassadors come from all over the Midwest as well as the nation and the world. Before coming to UW-Eau Claire, we lived in Madison, WI., St. Paul, MN., Minneapolis, MN., Savannah, GA., Lawrence, KS., Dundee, NY., and Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
How are Ambassadors Selected?
Each spring, faculty and academic staff are asked to nominate students they feel would contribute to the Campus Ambassadors. Students who are nominated may be freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Seniors who have one more year of academic work may also be nominated. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievement, communication skills, knowledge of UW-Eau Claire and leadership potential.
After a student has been nominated, he or she attends an informational meeting at which time applications are distributed. A student fills out the application and is interviewed by a team of veteran Ambassadors and the advisors. Students are then informed of their acceptance. All students at UW-Eau Claire are considered ambassadors of the campus. It is a great honor just being nominated to the Ambassadors even if a student does not make the final selection.
