Beverly Soll holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in piano from the University of Illinois where she was a student of Soulima Stravinsky and Dean Sanders. Her Doctor of Musical Arts degree is from the University of Maryland. Before coming to Eau Claire, she served on the faculty at the State University of New York-Geneseo, George Mason University, and Wayne State College (Wayne, Nebraska) as a coach/accompanist and teacher of piano. She also presented performances throughout the United States and in Germany.
In addition to her teaching duties at Wayne State College, she also worked as an arts manager, founding the Center for Cultural Outreach (a multi-faceted office which hosted a variety of miscellaneous outreach programs including concerts, guest faculty residency artists and multicultural scholars, thematic ethnic festivals, a Sunday afternoon lecture series, and a First Fridays colloquium for senior citizens) and administering the college’s longstanding Black & Gold professional performance series which included music, theatre, and dance events.
Beverly joined the staff of Activities and Programs in University Centers in 1999 as special events/performing arts coordinator. She — in partnership with Jennifer Brockpahler — works with university-wide programs including the Viennese Ball, Cabaret, Commencement, the Forum and Artists Series, and other programs that enhance the cultural and social learning environment of the university and Chippewa Valley community. For several years, she has also functioned as the lead worker for the Activities and Program office.
Since moving to Eau Claire, Beverly has continued her work as a music scholar with the publication of her book on the operas of African American composer William Grant Still, I Dream a World (University of Arkansas Press, 2005). She has also continued to freelance as a pianist, often performing with members of the music faculty and other area musicians. She has been a member of the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra since 2000, appearing with ECCO as a soloist in Mendelssohn’s G minor Concerto in the fall of 2006.
Community outreach projects include work on the Literary Arts Committee of the Eau Claire Regional Arts Council which produces the oldest annual book festival in Wisconsin and the Arts, Entertainment, and Museums Committee, one of seven committees reporting to the board of Downtown Eau Claire, Inc.
She is an avid reader, a great mom to several fabulous felines, and, in their spare time, Beverly and her husband Andy enjoy home remodeling projects.
