Alternative Spring Break

From Servant Leadership to Social Justice

The 2010 Alternative Break Trip: From Servant Leadership to Social Justice, is an opportunity for a small group of students to spend a week in Indianapolis exploring the concepts of Servant Leadership and Social Justice. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a seminar with the staff at the Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, will meet local business and community leaders to discuss how servant leadership is used in the profit and not-for-profit worlds, and will participate in service initiatives to give back to the Indianapolis community.

The cost for the trip is $350, which includes lodging, transportation, most meals, all group activities, and course books. Registration will begin Thursday, November 19 for residents of the Leadership Living Learning Community, and on Monday, November 30, 2009 for all other students. Students may register in the Activities and Programs office (Davies 133). Registration is limited to the first 20 students. A $100 deposit is due at the time of registration with the remaining fee due by Monday, March 15, 2010.

All participants will be expected to read The Case for Servant Leadership (provided) prior to trip departure and attend two pre-trip meetings on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 and Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

Volunteering at Wheeler Mission and Rebuilding the Wall
Dinner and Discussion with Hampton House Program for Servant Leadership Students at Butler University (tentative)

Thursday, April 1
Visit to Cristo Rey High School in Chicago (tentative)
Hull House Museum in Chicago
Return to Eau Claire in late evening
