The Long Emergency:
The Converging Catastrophes of the 21st Century

Thursday, April 17, 2008
Zorn Arena | 7:30 P.M.

"Contributes to a discussion our society
must hold if we are to shape our world as it
continues to change at a dizzying pace.
"
- The Christian Science Monitor

Kunstler wrote The Geography of Nowhere (1993) “because I believe a lot of people share my feelings about the tragic landscape of highway strips, parking lots, housing tracts, mega-malls, junked cities, and ravaged countryside that makes up the everyday environment where most Americans live and work.”

Home from Nowhere (1996) continued that discussion emphasizing the remedies. His latest book, The Long Emergency (2005), continues Kunstler’s passionate outcry about the challenges posed by the global
oil crisis, climate change, and other “converging catastrophes of the 21st century.”

Kunstler is also the author of nine novels and is a regular contributor on environmental
and economic issues to The New York Times Magazine.
