Developing skills, deepening passion
Get real world experience as part of your education. Having an internship is one of the most important things you can do to build your skills, understanding and passion for this field. Get into probation offices, public defenders offices or even the secret service. We have various options for all of our students to get the experience they’re craving. Students can apply for an internship within a local agency with whom we've had a longstanding relationship. Additionally, faculty are available to assist students in applying for internships outside of the Eau Claire area.
Blugold finds her place close to home
Eau Claire native Vanessa Evenson came to UWEC for the university's criminal justice program, having heard about the quality of the courses and the opportunities outside of the classroom. And her experiences didn't disappoint.
Soon after beginning her studies at UWEC, Vanessa secured an internship with UW-Eau Claire’s University Police, an internship that allowed her to find her niche within the law enforcement field as well as her first professional job. Vanessa is now a proud member of the UWEC Police Department.
“I got to know the department, the officers and what university police do," she said. "I fell in love with the department and university policing. University police ensure safety on campus, but also provide safety education and training to students, staff and faculty. It is exciting to give back to and work for the university that offered me so many life opportunities and experiences. It makes it that much more special and rewarding for me to be here. This is my dream job.”
