General geology graduates find that they have many employment opportunities, as well as an excellent preparation for graduate school in either geology or engineering. Many general geology graduates work as geologists for environmental consulting firms conducting site investigations, helping clients prevent unforeseen environmental impacts, and collecting data to inform client decisions. Graduates of the comprehensive geology general emphasis also work in the mineral exploration, mining, and petroleum industries, as well as other industries needing geology expertise.

The career outlook for geoscientists is pretty bright, according to national data. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that for geoscientists equipped with a bachelor's degree, the median salary was $89,700 in 2015. For geology related fields, they also project a faster than average growth rate of 10%  for  2014-24.
