Department of Social Work

Two probationary tenure-track faculty positions as Assistant Professor are available beginning August 18, 2008.

The Social Work Program is a dynamic, vibrant community of learning, accredited until 2015 by CSWE. The Department is considered one of the strongest in the Upper Midwest, with 265 majors. The seven full-time faculty and one part-time faculty maintain a strong collegial environment, with an emphasis on quality of teaching: The university is nationally recognized for faculty-student collaborative research, service learning, and international education, and the Department is a campus leader in all three areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applicants will be expected to teach courses as assigned in the Department of Social Work, participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students as assigned, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A doctorate in Social Work or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution is preferred. ABD applicants will be considered but must complete the terminal degree by January 1, 2010.
  2. An MSW and at least two years of post-MSW practice experience are required.
  3. Micro and/or macro practice experience is desirable.
  4. Area of Specialty: Generalist Social Work Practice.
  5. Area of Concentration: Methods, Policy, Research, and Internship.
  6. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach core social work courses and other social work courses as assigned (such as child welfare, AODA, and gerontology).
  7. The ability to enhance the diversity of the department and to serve as a role model and mentor for women and/or minorities is considered a major asset.
