Department of Special Education

A probationary tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor with a focus on High Incidence Disabilities is available to begin August 18, 2008.

The Department is very collegial and values collaboration and diversity. Summer employment is a possibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applicants will be expected to teach courses as assigned in the Department of Special Education
  • The successful candidate will also participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students as assigned, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in Special Education or a related field by August 18, 2008 is preferred; ABD will be considered, with completion of degree required by August 1, 2009.

Additional Requirements:

  • Graduate studies in special education or teaching certification in an area of special education.
  • A minimum of three years of Pre-K-12 teaching experience with students with high-incidence disabilities.
  • Knowledge and skills in formal and informal assessment, IEPs, and academic interventions for students with mild disabilities.
  • Interest and expertise in inclusive practice.
  • Successful experience using evidence-based instructional practices with students at risk for academic failure including students with disabilities.
  • Interest in or willingness to learn to use distance education.
  • May be considered an asset: teaching experience at the elementary level.
