Finalists Announced
The Search and Screen Committee for the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences has identified two finalists for the position:
- Wendy M. Nehring, RN, PhD, FAAN, FAAIDD (Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Graduate Programs, and Associate Professor of the College of Nursing at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey). Visiting May 7 through May 9.
- Julie Elaine Johnson, PhD, RN, FAAN (Elisa and Antonio H. Enriquez Endowed Professor in the School of Nursing at New Mexico State University in Las Cruce, New Mexico).
Visiting May 12 through May 14.

Position Announcement
College of Nursing and Health Sciences
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invites nominations and applications
for the position of Dean of the College of Nursing and Health
Sciences. The Dean is the visionary administrative leader of
the College and the chief advocate for the mission of the College’s
student- centered academic programs, including empowering tomorrow’s
leaders. The Dean manages the College’s budget, its academic programs,
and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty, staff and
student body. The Dean promotes faculty and student research and scholarship,
facilitates and oversees College personnel matters, and works collaboratively
with other campus deans and administrators and community organizations
to advance the mission of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences
and the goals of the University. The anticipated start date is summer
2008.
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers CCNE accredited BSN
and MSN programs, and an accredited BS program in Environmental Public
Health to 700 undergraduate and 69 graduate students, with 47.5 FTE
faculty and staff. We offer a BSN program in Eau Claire and Marshfield,
WI. Faculty and classrooms at both sites are connected by live, interactive
video. We collaborate in a statewide RN/BSN program, and provide both
distance and onsite RN/BSN/MSN programming. At the graduate level, students
select Adult or Family Specialization and role preparation in nursing
education, nursing administration, or advanced clinical practice (preparation
for certification as nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist).
With a reputation of responding to community/state needs, the College
is regularly involved in new initiatives. Current initiatives include
an accelerated program, planning for a DNP program, expansion of the
BSN program at the Marshfield site, enhancing community connections
in public health/community, supporting a diverse faculty and student
body, and maintaining an environmentally friendly milieu.
RESPONSIBILITIES / POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Dean is the intellectual and administrative leader of the College,
and the chief advocate for the mission and purpose of the College’s
academic programs.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Lead the development, evaluation, and administration of the activities
of the faculty and academic staff and of the academic programs of
the College, including curriculum, instruction, advising, and scholarship.
- Provide visionary leadership within the College, University, and
broader community, based on a strong knowledge and value of the integral
relationship between liberal education and professional education.
- Advise the Provost and Vice Chancellor in matters of academic program,
budget, facilities, personnel, and support services and act as a strong
advocate for, and representative of, the College of Nursing and Health
Sciences.
- Encourage and maintain academic standards, and administer academic
regulations within the College with vision for future direction.
- Develop, recommend, and administer the College budget.
- Organize, represent, and preside over the faculty and academic staff
of the College.
- Seek gift and grant support for the College, working cooperatively
and collaboratively with the University Foundation, and the Office
of Research and Sponsored Programs.
- Promote professional development and research and other scholarly
and creative activities, including faculty and academic staff and
undergraduate student research collaboration.
- Establish and maintain appropriate records relating to faculty and
academic staff, students, and alumni of the College.
- Recommend to the Provost and Vice Chancellor all personnel matters
relating to the appointments, evaluation, and promotion of faculty
and academic staff, and tenure of College faculty.
- Encourage partnerships within the College, across the University,
and within the community, including those involving collaborative
teaching, research, practice, and service.
- Promote public service and encourage outreach activities that serve
the community and the professions.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with the academic deans of
the other colleges as well as with the Associate Vice Chancellors.
- Provide leadership in affirmative action, cultural diversity, international
education, and interdisciplinary studies.
- Work closely with the University Dean of Graduate Studies as well
as the Director of Continuing Education to assist in providing leadership
for lifelong learning through Graduate Studies and Continuing Education.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- A doctorate in nursing or closely related field and a masters degree
in nursing;
- Eligible for tenure;
- Evidence of a strong record of professional experience, teaching,
scholarship, publication, and service;
- Current RN Licensure in the United States and eligibility for RN
licensure in Wisconsin;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in educational administration and budget
management;
- Commitment to faculty governance;
- Demonstrated history of success in seeking gift and grant funds;
- Ability to maintain academic standards and administer academic regulations
with vision for future directions;
- Dedication to fostering a diverse learning environment;
- Dedication to promoting faculty research and other scholarly and
creative activities;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and represent
the College effectively both internally and externally.
Preferred:
- Knowledge in environmental public health disciplines;
- Recognition for regional, national, and/or international leadership;
- Commitment to social justice and dedication to empowering leaders
for a just and humane world;
- Sophisticated understanding of global issues and advocacy for service
to at-risk populations.
