Department of Music and Theatre Arts

A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Piano is available to begin August 18, 2008.

The Department of Music and Theatre Arts serves over 375 music majors and minors supported by 32 full-time and 9 part-time faculty. Academic programs include the BM degree in performance, theory and composition; the BME degree in instrumental, choral, and general music education; the BA and BS degrees in music and music history, and the BMT degree in music therapy. All degree programs are fully accredited by NASM. The department also serves 100 majors and minors in undergraduate programs in theatre arts and dance and offers BA degrees in theatre and theatre education as well as a minor in dance. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach applied and class piano and coordinate group piano offerings.
  • Other courses and responsibilities are possible according to candidate interest and departmental need.
  • Participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students as assigned, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Doctorate in piano performance, performance and pedagogy, or collaborative arts preferred.
  2. ABD applicants must complete the doctoral degree by March 20, 2009.
  3. Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience.
  4. Ability to teach applied and class piano at the collegiate level and a record of public performance is required.
  5. Accompanying, organ, harpsichord, or jazz piano experience will be considered an asset.
  6. Ability to bring diverse ethnic and cultural experiences or perspectives to the campus, and to serve as a mentor and role model for women and minority students, may be considered an asset.
