Department of Kinesiology

A probationary tenure-track faculty position is available in the Department of Kinesiology in Physical Education at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The position is available beginning August 23, 2010.

The Kinesiology Department is collegial, supportive, dedicated to excellence in teaching, and engages in numerous professional service initiatives and student faculty collaborative research. Two majors are offered in Athletic Training and Kinesiology, which includes emphases in Human Performance, Movement Studies, Physical Education, and Sport Pedagogy. Minors are offered in Adapted Physical Education, Coaching, and Kinesiology. The Service program provides wellness theory and physical activity programs to meet the University wide requirement. The department currently has approximately 600 students within its majors and minors, and 20 full time faculty and academic staff..

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate early childhood, elementary, and secondary method courses in the teacher education program in the Kinesiology Department as assigned.
  • Supervise undergraduate practicum and internship experiences in K- 12 school placements.
  • Provide service to the University, College, Department, profession, and community.
  • Participate in research and scholarly activities, and provide academic advising to students as assigned.
  • Responsibilities may also include directorship of the Physical Education program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned doctorate in Physical Education or an area relevant to the responsibilities described. ABD will be considered.
  • Assistant rank: college teaching experience; previous experience in supervision of practicum and internships; ability to model effective teaching practices; ability to recruit culturally diverse students; evidence of potential for scholarly productivity.
  • Additional qualifications for the Associate rank–a minimum of five years college teaching experience; previous program director experience; strong evidence of scholarly productivity.
  • In addition to these qualifications, the ability to utilize research and classroom technology, and the ability to bring diverse perspectives to the campus will be considered an asset.
  • Three or more years of teaching and/or supervising within the public school physical education setting is desirable.
