Department of Foundations of Education

A full time, probationary tenure track faculty teaching position for the library information science media technology program in the Department of Foundations of Education at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor is available. The start date is flexible. Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience.

The library information science and media technology program is housed in the Foundations of Education Department in the College of Education and Human Sciences. The Department and College are committed to the core values of collaboration, social justice, diversity, reflective practice and professional development based on liberal arts principles. The program offers an undergraduate minor in library science for liberal arts majors and a minor leading to certification as a school library media specialist as well as graduate and professional development preparation for advanced certification in a program accredited by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applicants will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned including core courses in the program in the Department of Foundations of Education.
  • The successful candidate will also supervise practicum experiences, provide academic advising to students as assigned, participate in research and scholarly activities, coordinate the program, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.
  • The successful candidate will teach core courses on campus in face-to-face settings as well as periodic on-line courses in the University of Wisconsin System School Library Media Consortium.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Doctorate in library information sciences or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution. ABD applicants must complete the terminal degree by contract date.
  2. Demonstrated teaching ability in either K-12 or higher education.
  3. Demonstrated ability to teach core courses including four of the following: cataloguing, collection development, reference, administration, and media technology housed in the Foundations of Education Department.
  4. Research agenda or a history of scholarly activities.

Preferred:

  1. Certification as a school library media specialist.
  2. Experience working with k-12 schools, education agencies or public libraries.
  3. The ability to enhance the diversity of the department and bring global perspectives to the Department will be considered an asset.
