Department of Foundations of Education

Two full-time probationary tenure-track faculty positions as Assistant or Associate Professor are available to begin August 18, 2008. Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience, and rank will be determined based upon teaching, scholarship and other experience associated with the responsibilities and qualifications identified below.

The educational foundations and policies studies courses are housed in the Foundations of Education Department in the College of Education and Human Sciences. The Department and College are committed to the core values of collaboration, social justice, diversity, reflective practice and liberal arts principles. The Department offers courses that serve k-12 teacher education licensure, communication sciences and disorders, and school psychology programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applicants will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned including core courses serving programs in the College.
  • Participate in research and scholarly activities.
  • Engage in service to the university and community.
  • Participate in department, college, and university committee work.
  • Additional duties may include supervision of practicum experiences and providing academic advising to students as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Doctorate in education from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach four of the following core areas: 1.) history of education 2.) philosophy of education 3.) legal foundations of education 4.) social, cultural, human relations foundations of education and 5.) educational media and technology 6.) educational leadership to include examination of issues of ethnicity and race, social class, language, immigration, globalization, disability, sexuality and other dimensions of diversity in the context of education policy and practice.

Preferred:

  1. Ability to teach additional core areas will be considered an asset.
  2. Experience working with k-12 schools or education agencies will be considered an asset.
  3. The ability to enhance diversity and bring global perspectives to the Department will be considered an asset.
