Department of English

A probationary tenure-track faculty position is available in the Department of English at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Twentieth Century American Poetry beginning August 24, 2009.

The English Department is a thriving, diverse academic community dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning. The department offers rigorous emphases in literature, creative writing, scientific and technical writing, linguistics, and education to English majors and minors. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach courses as assigned in the Department of English.
  • All department members teach composition every semester in addition to general and specialized courses.
  • The typical semester load is 3 courses, equivalent to 12 credits.
  • In addition, all department members participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Doctorate in English or related field with specialization in Twentieth Century American Poetry. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by December 1, 2009.
  2. Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience.
  3. Area of Concentration: Twentieth Century American Poetry, with emphasis on early to mid-century writers.

Strong assets:

  1. Evidence of teaching experience and research in late 20th Century American Poetry.
  2. Evidence of teaching experience and research in 20th Century British Poetry
  3. Evidence of excellent teaching in composition at the college level.
  4. Evidence of excellent scholarly potential.
  5. Commitment to undergraduate education.
  6. Ability to bring diverse perspectives or experiences to campus.
