Department of Education Studies/Teacher Education Program
A probationary tenure track faculty position is available in the Department
of Education Studies in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor. This is an academic year position with the Teacher Education Program with a start date of fall semester 2010. The candidate will seek tenure in the Department of Education Studies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Applicants will be expected to:
- teach at least six credits per semester as assigned by the Associate Dean of Teacher Education Program;
- provide professional development and integration support in TESOL to support Teacher Education faculty;
- participate in research and scholarly activities;
- work closely with the Associate Dean of Teacher Education Program for class assignments;
- provide academic advising to students as assigned;
- work collaboratively with recruiter/advisor to fulfill recruitment and retention initiatives;
- engage in service to the university and community;
- participate in department and college committee work;
- participate in curriculum development; and
- participate in grant writing to secure funds to enhance recruitment and retention initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must have a doctorate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, or closely related field. Salary will be commensurate with work and teaching experience.
- Demonstrated excellence and experience to teach teacher preparation courses in TESOL/TESL, Bilingual Education.
- Strong track record of TESOL teaching skills with 3-5 years domestic (US) experience in K-12.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of colleagues.
- Ability to support faculty members in the integration of culturally-congruent pedagogy and best practices for TESOL instruction and inclusion.
- The candidate will work collaboratively with the TESOL Coordinator concerning program modifications and student advising.
- The candidate will coordinate activities and programs with the Teacher Education Program recruiter/advisor whose responsibility is to recruit and retain students of color as well as students in the critical needs areas of mathematics, science, and special education.
Desired Qualifications:
- The ability to enhance the diversity of the Teacher Education Program and serve as a role model and mentor of students of color will be considered an asset.
- Bilingual proficiency in both languages (according to ACTFL’s Proficiency Guidelines).
- At least two years of work in higher education at the assistant professor level with a strong track record of scholarship and teaching effectiveness.
