Department of Economics

The Economics Department at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position to begin August 18, 2008. The department seeks candidates who are committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining an active research program. The department encourages applications from individuals who will bring diverse cultural and ethnic perspectives or experiences to campus.

The Department of Economics has 10 full-time faculty members and is part of the College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers undergraduate economics majors and minors; it also provides general education and supporting coursework in economics. There are approximately 130 majors and 20 minors in the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The faculty member will be expected to teach courses in introductory economics and Economics of Minorities and Economics of Gender.
  • An interest in teaching intermediate economic theory is desired.
  • The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students as assigned, engage in service to the university and community, and participate in department, college, and university committee work.
  • An interest in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues will be looked upon favorably.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ph.D. in economics required; ABD applicants considered with evidence that the degree will be completed by February 15, 2009.
  2. Evidence of teaching excellence and the ability to develop and maintain an active research program.
  3. Salary is commensurate with teaching and research experience.

To apply, submit a letter of application, curriculum vita, three letters of reference, a writing sample, and evidence of excellent teaching (such as student evaluations). The university reserves the right to contact additional references with notice given to the candidates at an appropriate time in the process. Invited candidates will be asked to provide an official transcript. Search committee members will interview selected candidates at the ASSA meeting in New Orleans or by telephone; this will be a formal step in the process of developing a list of finalist candidates for on-campus interview.
