Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies

 

Finalists Announced

The Search and Screen Committee for the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies is pleased to announce three finalists for the position.

The finalists are:

  • Lance R. Grahn, Ph.D. (Dean of the College of Letters and Science and Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point). Visiting May 6 and 7.
  • P. Joan Poor, Ph.D., (Assistant to the President for Campus Planning and Legislative Affairs at St. Mary's College of Maryland). Visiting May 8 and 9.
  • Douglas Reimondo Robertson, Ph.D., (Assistant Provost for Professional Development Programs and Professor of Educational Leadership at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky). Visiting May 13 and 14.

Each of the finalists will be making two-day campus visits over the coming two weeks. UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff, and students will have the opportunity to listen and speak to each candidate during an open forum on the dates and times listed below. The topic for candidate presentations is as follows: "This new position brings together student support services and academics to create an integrated undergraduate experience. What do you see as the challenges and opportunities?"

Dr. Lance R. Grahn will be visiting campus May 6 and 7 with a campus presentation on May 6 at 11:00 am in the Menominee Room of Davies Center.

Dr. P. Joan Poor will be visiting campus May 8 and 9 with a campus presentation on May 8 at 11:00 am in Davies Theatre.

Dr. Douglas Reimondo Robertson will be visiting campus May 13 and 14 with a campus presentation on May 13 at 11:00 am in Davies Theatre.

Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies

The University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire seeks applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Undergraduate Studies. The Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean is responsible for the coordination of undergraduates’ academic experiences, assuring that the university provides the best academic experience in an environment that promotes retention and graduation. The Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean reports to and consults with the Provost. The person serves on the Academic Affairs Deans Council and works closely with the deans and faculty of the individual colleges in developing, implementing, and coordinating undergraduate academic policies and curricula. The Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean also oversees academic services and programs that enhance the undergraduate experience

RESPONSIBILITIES / POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies provides effective operational direction and coordination for the following major functions:

Program, Unit, and Initiative Oversight

  • Oversees and advocates for selected programs and units including:
    • Educational Support Services
    • Blugold Fellows
    • Center for International Education
    • First Year Experience
    • Honors Program
    • Advising and New Student Initiatives
    • Service Learning
    • Career Services
    • McNair Program
    • University Assessment

Academic Program Development and Related Activities

  • Facilitates, in coordination with the dean, the development and support of undergraduate academic programs, certificates, and centers, and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and curricular innovations at the undergraduate level.
  • Serves as the UW System liaison for new undergraduate academic program initiatives.
  • Monitors course availability; in conjunction with the deans and provost advocates for funding for high need areas.
  • Anticipates and examines, in collaboration with the deans, how changes in curriculum in one area will affect other areas.
  • Serves as the Provost’s designee on the University General Education Committee.
  • Facilitates regional and inter-institutional collaborations and articulations.
  • Oversees winterim and summer session, including budget, publicity and, in conjunctions with the deans, course offerings.
  • Provides leadership for student retention efforts.
  • Facilitates the development of innovative programs, including distance education and on-line courses.
  • Represents the University in designated University, system, regional, state, and national councils that are linked to undergraduate education.
  • Supports the Provost in implementing the goals of the University Strategic Plan .
  • Acts in the place of the Provost and Vice Chancellor, or the Chancellor, as requested.
  • Performs other duties that support the provost and the undergraduate experience at UW-Eau Claire.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must have a terminal degree, an academic record that warrants tenure, and a successful record as an academic administrator that includes personnel supervision.
  • A successful candidate will have:
    • a strong background in undergraduate education including working with academic support services;
    • clear commitment to student success;
    • excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
    • ability to foster and sustain a positive environment for teaching, advising, service, and scholarship;
    • dedication to fostering a diverse learning environment; and
    • commitment to shared governance.
