Department of Kinesiology and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics

A full-time, dual appointment vacancy is available for a 53% Lecturer in Kinesiology and a 47% Athletic Trainer in Athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Kinesiology appointment will begin August 18, 2008. The Athletic appointment is a split 22% academic year appointment and a 25% fiscal year appointment and will begin August 1, 2008.

Description of Programs:

  • The Department of Kinesiology is a growing department and currently has approximately 500 students in associated majors and minors, and approximately 24 full and part-time faculty and academic staff. The department is collegial, supportive, and dedicated to excellence in teaching.
  • The Athletic Training Education Program is one of two majors offered by the Department of Kinesiology. The Athletic Training program currently has approximately 50 majors, outstanding university and community support, and a rich array of supportive clinical partnerships.
  • The Department of Athletics offers 22 NCAA Division III sports and competes in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). With over 60 coaches and staff, the athletic program supports approximately 530 student-athletes

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise athletic training students in the CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education program.
  • Teach undergraduate courses (16 credit hours/academic year) in the Department of Kinesiology (e.g., athletic training courses, anatomy, first aid and c.p.r., wellness, and other courses as needed and qualified).
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, and sport coverage within the intercollegiate athletic program and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist the Athletics Director with other duties as assigned.
  • Participate as a team member in the development and support of excellence within the Kinesiology Department and the Athletics program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. An earned master's (required prior to start date) degree in Athletic Training or a related curricular area.
  2. BOC certification and eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin required.

Assets:

  1. Experience in an accredited athletic training education program.
  2. Three or more years of clinical experience
  3. Experience/knowledge of teaching anatomy.
  4. First Aid and CPR instructor certification is desired..
  5. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
  6. Experience with reimbursement in billing and coding.
  7. Experience in developing university/community collaborations in athletic training.
