News Bureau

An 80 percent professional academic staff position in the News Bureau with the title of marketing program manager is available beginning April 14, 2008. The official title for this position is Administrative Program Manager II.

The News Bureau provides information to the news media, campus community, alumni and others about the people, programs and activities that make up UW-Eau Claire’s living and learning community. The News Bureau staff’s varied duties include coordinating media relations, coordinating a universitywide marketing plan, producing print and online publications for internal and external audiences, building relationships with the community, writing and editing copy for publications and marketing materials, maintaining content for select Web pages and coordinating photography for a variety of campus and media uses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the lead marketing specialist within the News Bureau, this position will help develop and implement a marketing program for the university. The position manages the creation of marketing materials, activities and other public information services to support the university’s goals of attracting quality students, faculty and staff, as well as keeping community members informed about opportunities available to them on campus. This position requires considerable judgment, resourcefulness, creativity and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects. It requires frequent interaction with leadership, faculty, staff and students. This position works closely and cooperatively with graphic designers, photographers and others on projects.

  • Manage the development and implementation of a marketing plan for UW-Eau Claire.
  • Manage the development of marketing materials for the Admissions Office, including the Viewbook, ads, fact sheets, brochures and other materials relating to student recruitment.
  • Manage the development of advertising and other materials in support of universitywide marketing goals.
  • Coordinate promotion of programs such as Summer and Winterim sessions.
  • Develop copy and coordinate photos as requested for college guides, UW System publications, community resources and other publications.
  • Develop, edit and maintain universitywide Web pages as assigned.
  • Help coordinate the use of new technologies to promote UW-Eau Claire.
  • Write and edit stories for university publications/news releases as assigned.
  • Represent UW-Eau Claire through participation in professional and community organizations and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in journalism and/or communications) required from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style required.
  • Advanced writing and editing skills required.
  • Minimum of three to five years' professional experience in the communication field required.
  • Knowledge of Web and new technologies helpful.
