Counseling Services

UW-Eau Claire Counseling Services seeks applicants for a professional academic staff (non-teaching) position as a Psychologist to provide generalist counseling services to the campus community and to coordinate Women's Issues Counseling with a special focus on Eating Disorders. This is a 92% fixed term annual renewable position. Time off contract would be expected to be taken during the summer months. The position has a start date of September 9, 2008 (negotiable).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counseling-related responsibilities include short-term individual and couples counseling, psychological testing/assessment, group counseling, outreach, consultation, crisis intervention, and training/supervision for graduate-level practicum counselors.  Candidates must have capacity to provide services to adults of all ages, presenting a broad spectrum of psychological problems and developmental concerns.

The coordinator will provide consultation and leadership for counseling staff in the provision of services for women. Coordination duties involve overseeing and building upon existing counseling services for eating disorders, sexual assault, and domestic abuse. The person will also work collaboratively with the UW-Eau Claire Women and Gender Equity Center and Center Against Sexual Assault. Candidates with strong experience working with women’s issues on college campuses are urged to apply.

  • Conduct counseling or therapeutic interviews to help individuals gain insight into causes of personal needs, and promote personal development. Assessment of students’ needs may be done by interviews, psychological testing, or other counseling techniques. The counseling process may also include referral to other on and off-campus resources, e.g. psychiatrist, community agency, health services etc..
  • Plan and offer a variety of structured and unstructured groups for skill building, support, insight, and personal development of college students.
  • Participate in coverage of “intake” counseling service to provide crisis intervention, assessment, therapy, and referral to students and staff on a walk-in basis.
  • Provide liaison and consultant work with faculty, staff, and administration concerning student and staff development and mental health needs.
  • Provide outreach to campus organizations and classes to inform students about personal development and mental health concerns.
  • Engage in professional development activities, such as holding professional offices, making presentations at conferences, publishing, conducting in-services, and doing psychological research.
  • Supervise/train graduate student practica/interns.
  • Conduct outreach and training events for individuals or community groups on an occasional basis.
  • Assume other duties as requested by supervisor, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (or ABD) in a counseling, psychology, or other mental health field.
  • Licensed or license-eligible (within 2 years) in Wisconsin.
  • Advanced training or experience with eating disorders counseling.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • College counseling center internship or other experience in college student mental health.
  • Training and experience in violence prevention and working with victims/survivors of violence and abuse, including sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.
  • Experience supervising the clinical work and/or employment of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement psycho-educational outreach programs and provide consultation services.
  • Experience assessing and treating serious mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment that includes interacting with allied professionals.
