The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire seeks applications for the position of Admissions Counselor. This is a full-time fixed term professional academic staff position within the official title series of Advisor. The selected candidate will work closely with UW-Eau Claire science faculty and will join an experienced Admissions team in establishing and maintaining connections with targeted high schools and attracting high quality students to the sciences at UW–Eau Claire.The anticipated start date is July 2008 (negotiable).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As a member of the Admissions Office staff, this individual will play a very important role in recruitment and outreach activities related to the Materials Science Center and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) initiatives at UW–Eau Claire.
  • This individual will represent the UW-Eau Claire at high school visits, educational fairs, college/career days/nights, and other outreach events throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota, emphasizing STEM fields. 
  • He/she will conduct presentations with prospective students and their parents during campus visits. 
  • The selected candidate will inform prospective students, parents, and high school counseling staff of the admission requirements and procedures, and educational opportunities available at UW-Eau Claire, highlighting STEM fields.
  • This individual will develop and implement special efforts to recruit STEM students to the University. 
  • He/she will facilitate presentations made by UW-Eau Claire science faculty to area high schools.
  • The selected candidate will assist with special recruitment projects, telecounseling activities, event planning for special on-campus group visits, and on-going daily correspondence. 
  • This person will perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Admissions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor’s degree is required. 
  2. Demonstrated skills working with diverse student populations and knowledge of university and UW System policies are highly desirable.
  3. The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  4. Additionally she/he must have excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills, comfort with technology, proven leadership ability, strong organizational and managerial abilities and an aptitude to work creatively and independently. 
  5. The individual must be willing to handle long and often irregular work hours. 
  6. The ability to travel independently and extensively in Wisconsin and other areas of the upper Midwest are required. 
  7. Familiarity with UW-Eau Claire and/or a degree in the STEM fields will be considered an asset.
  8. One-two years experience working with high school and/or college students will be considered an asset.
