Functions:
- Monitor the need and demand for courses and programs that a) develop competencies
in written and spoken English needed by degree-seeking international students at
UWEC, b) prepare students for the teaching of English to refugees/resident immigrants
in the U.S. (the TESOL Minor), c) prepare students for the teaching of English abroad
(TEFL minor and certificate) and d) develop competencies in English needed by degree-seeking
refugees/resident immigrants at UWEC (CEP program).
- Develop a long-range plan for ESL/EFL courses and programs, taking into account
need, demand, and availability of resources.
- Serve as the curriculum committee for these programs (e.g., approving new courses,
periodically reviewing courses, recommending admission requirements or graduation
requirements for the minors, etc.), recommending to appropriate college curriculum
committees.
- Participate in the assessment of the quality of these programs (e.g., by developing
and implementing an assessment process, developing self-studies for the periodic
review of these programs by the University and by DPI).
- Advise the Provost, appropriate Deans, and Department Chairs
regarding the current status and future development of these programs.
