A good friend of mine was watching Anime on Demand and stumbled across the first season of Full Metal Panic. He was thoroughly impressed and managed to catch a few more episodes before telling me about how incredible it was. So we went to a local Best Buy and proceeded to buy the box set of the first season (Full Metal Panic) and our hopes were fulfilled, the entire first season was as good as the first few episodes. Subsequently, I searched for the next season (Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu) and eventually the third season (Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid) as it was released. |

There are definitely no major flaws to this series... that I have found anyway. However, if you want just a complete action series, this is definitely not for you. The first season offers a very good blend between the harsh reality of the characters world and comedy. The second season is ENTIRELY comedy and some of the best animated comedy I have ever seen. The third season goes back to the first season's style, but a bit more serious. |
Genre: Comedy, Mecha, and a bit of Romance
Episode count: 1st Season: 24, 2nd Season: 15 (12 technically), 3rd Season: 13, OVA: 1 |
Full Metal Panic!, the animated series follow the events of Sosuke Sagara, a soldier of a covert international anti-terrorist armed forces, and a Japanese high school student, Kaname Chidori. Sosuke is chosen by Mithril to be Kaname's bodyguard from his Japanese heritage and young age allowing him to slip into her school undetected as a transfer student. He is not told the reason for these security measures. All He knows are his orders: to remain undetected, protecting Kaname from capture and abduction from an unknown hostile force until told otherwise. What he doesn't know is the dangerous and unfamiliar territory called "High School".
My Addition: This above is just the absolute tip of the iceburg and only an introduction to the first season. The anime takes you around the world and through the many hardships, going from between characters to war. |

-The character development of this series is very interesting along with the dialog and movement between characters. Especially the main ones of course.
-The story is not too difficult to comprehend and splashes into multiple genres at the same time. Very intriguing overall.
-This isn't your typical mech anime with the majority being mindless fighting. There is a good amount of strategy involved and constant character interaction during battles.
-From my view point the animation is very well done and each characters expressions and actions are very well detailed.
-Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, just put me into the ground with comedy. The entire second season is just laugh after laugh and it is a great relief after the first season. Thankfully though, they did go back to a more plot driven storyline in the third season and brought about a decent conclusion. |
