Creating Accessible PDF Files

PDF or Portable Document Format files are wonderful when you want to display a file over the Web when you want to ensure that the content displays the same no matter how viewed, that it prints the same as viewed, or that it protects your content from copyright violations. But are they accessible to all?

While you may not be able to produce completely accessible PDF files, it is possible to improve them. You'll need Adobe Acrobat version 5 or greater and some help getting started. (Note: CutePDF will NOT produce the accessible features described in the links below.) UW-Eau Claire students and staff will find a link in the left margin of the Help Desk home page to get to the order form for Adobe products. See "Links and Order Forms for Discounted Software".
