Be up close and personal in the music world, as a part of the committee that
brings in the bands -- from hot new regional bands to cutting-edge artists on
tour. Committee members select and publicize upcoming shows. All members
assist show time production -- working as stage crew, loading bands in and
out, handling crowd control and sales. Shows include alternative, rock, reggae,
hip-hop, blues, jazz, country, funk and beyond -- there's a show for everyone.

Willy Porter EAU CLAIRE -- Guitarist, singer and songwriter Willy Porter will return to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire concert stage Friday, April 23. Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Angie Aparo and the Jim Pullman Band of Eau Claire will appear as special guests at the show. Doors will open at 8 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

The Washington Times recently described Porter as "a musician who  immediately brings his audience to ease as he gently and effusively  entertains... The solo performer offers a masterful blend of superior six-  and 12-string acoustic musicianship paired with a quick sense of humor  and songwriting evocative of what's in his heart."

From his earliest performing experiences, the UW-Eau Claire graduate  forged a connection to his fans that would continue to reverberate even  when he has opened shows for Tori Amos, Paul Simon, Sting, Jethro  Tull, Rickie Lee Jones, Jeff Beck and The Cranberries.

Porter has long been known for his innovative and expressive guitar  playing, which the Boston Globe has compared to that of Leo Kottke.  But it is his songwriting -- equal parts muscle and intimacy -- that has  gathered more attention recently.

In September Porter released his fifth CD, his long-awaited first live  album, "High Wire Live." Recorded in Birmingham, England, as well as  New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Portland, Ore., it is a  document of Porter's last year-and-a-half on the road. Featuring the  signature songs of his career, the songs most requested by his fans, the  CD touches the heart of Porter's songwriting and presents the fleet- fingered guitar playing that has placed him in the vanguard of the new  acoustic frontier.

Tickets are $9 ($7 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the  University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door.

Patrons may also charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order  by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 -- or, outside the immediate Eau Claire  area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to  all telephone charge orders.

The show is open to all ages; proof of age is required in the bar area.  The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the  UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.

Motion City Soundtrack EAU CLAIRE -- Motion City Soundtrack will headline a concert of pop punk Friday, Dec. 12, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the Minneapolis quintet's show in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. The Red Hot Valentines and Attention: will appear as special guests.

Combining jagged guitars and emotional melodies with a spiraling synth, stop-and-start dynamics and ironic lyrics, Motion City Soundtrack released its debut album, "I Am the Movie" (Epitaph) in June. Produced by the legendary emo rock producer Ed Rose, the recording was heralded as "a pop-rock knockout" by New Music Monthly. "All 14 tracks showcase a knack for quirky hooks set atop soaring guitars that makes that wait for MCS's sophomore effort almost unbearable," reviewer Chad Swiatecki wrote.

Tickets are $5 ($3 for UW-Eau Claire students) at the University Service Center, in Davies Center's west lobby, and at the door. The show is open to all ages.

Patrons may also charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 -- or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

B! EAU CLAIRE -- Minneapolis rock bands down and above and B! will be featured in concert at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday, October 17th. The doors will open at 8 p.m. for the show in the Council Fire Room of W.R. Davies Center.

Minneapolis-based Down and Above have emerged with a refreshingly original sound that blends heavy grooves, 3-part harmonies, and hardcore-inspired breakdowns into a powerful, melodic mix. With introspective lyrics and a passionate delivery, dna saturate their music with a balance of emotion and perspective.

Down and Above won the 93X-Fest Battle of the Bands, Minnesota's largest & most prominent battle of the bands competition, and were given the opening slot on 93X-Fest in front of such acts as Audioslave, Stone Sour, Saliva, the Ataris, and more. Down and Above have plans to release a new full-length album early in 2004, which will be supported by a short national tour. In the meantime DNA are playing a handful of regional dates as they prepare the rest of the new material for the upcoming record.

B! is a self-labled hardsoul band. Described as metal, funk, jazz, rock, blues, soca and indian styles lovingly crushed together and compared to Living Colour, Kings X and Sevendust, B! puts on a high-energy, exciting show.

B! was formed in the winter of 2000 and was gigging frequently throughout 2001. After a year off, the band returned in 2002 with their Degenerator album and tons of shows.

Tickets are $6 ($4 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door.

Patrons may also charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 -- or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.
