  For the Downhill Rider.
Where: Mount Washington Ski Hill

Difficulty: This is the home of the Mount Washington Ski Jump, and it is nice and steep. Parallel to the ski hill there is a wide, winding nature trail, that provides for a pretty difficult climb. When you reach the top you have two options. One, you can go back the way you came, and experience a brisk, sometimes bumpy downhill ride. Option two requires a little more skill and much more in the courage department, and entails bombing the face of the ski hill itself. To reiterate, this bad boy is steep. High velocity is a certainty, and one must veer off quickly at the bottom due to a road at the hill's foot. Common sense says wear a helmet, make sure you have some sort of suspension for stability, keep your weight as far back on the bike as possible, and ride your brakes for better control of your descent.

Aesthetic quality: Basically, this is just a ski hill and therefore looks like a big hill. Since the ski hill is located in the middle of a residential area, squirrels and birds are all you are going to see.

Recommended because: Pure speed. Going fast, with the wind in your face, and the thump in your chest is the real reason we are into mountain biking in the first place, isn't it? Steep hills equal breakneck velocity, just don't break yours by not protecting yourself and keeping under control.

Directions: From campus go west on Clairemont until you reach Menomonie Street.Take a left at the intersection and follow Menomonie Street as it winds up the hill. Mt. Washington will be on your left. You can't miss it.
