Student Organizations

There are two student organizations associated with the Department: the Sociology Organization for Students (SOS) and the sociology honors society, Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD).

Both organizations provide students with an opportunity for extracurricular interaction with fellow majors or minors and to become more knowledgeable about their respective fields of study.

FALL 2013!!!!!   Sociology Organization for Students

Please attend this year's inaugural meeting of the Student Organization of Sociologists (SOS):

When: Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Where: Davies Menominee 320F

Why: There will be no higher concentration of sociologists anywhere else in the Eau Claire metropolitan (ha! ha!) area.

      Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD)

Membership is by invitation only and there is a one-time initiation/membership fee of $40.00, however, once you join, you will become a lifetime member.

As a member of AKD, you will enjoy a number of benefits which include the opportunity to participate in prestigious paper competitions, the opportunity to participate in Honor's Week activities, and the experience of belonging to a community of scholars. For many, being inducted into an honor society during college is an important award highlighted on his/her resumé and graduate school application.Another practical consideration is the fact that the United States Civil Service Commission typically grants an automatic two-step upward adjustment of your GS rating if you are a member of a college/university honor society. In addition, you will be able to keep abreast of the latest research in the field of sociology through your subscription to the
 Sociological Inquiry.
