Project Description: Some of the members of CHP are developmentally disabled and need assistance and coaching to be involved in community activities. At the same time, these people may need to get out of the home for a while to provide respite for family members and caregivers. The project will focus on recruitment of students to provide respite services for family members/caregivers of members with developmental disabilities. We want to match the student caregiver to the member so that there is a good "fit" in terms of interests, so that it is an enjoyable and positive experience for both the member and the student. Project Description: The project aims by helping those in poverty or struggle to consistently put food on the table by providing a nutritious meal 1-2 times a week. To make this happen we need these three main components taken care of, and that where you come in: 1) Food Recovery - Procure food from UWEC's Dining Operations and safely store it 2) Meal Preparation - Cook/prepare meals and package them for delivery the following day 3) Meal Delivery - Meals get delivered to the sites where they are needed. There is some time, if you so choose, to interact with the meal recipients. We'll be more than happy to train you in the various shifts, no cooking experience required! Once trained in, there will be minimal supervision- this is truly a student/volunteer operation. There are ample opportunities for scholarships, leadership positions, and becoming Serve-Safe certified. In addition to the shift aforementioned, there will also be periodic events that we encourage our volunteers to attend/volunteer at (e.g. Hunger Banquet, Brown Bag Challenge, charity cookouts, food donations, etc.).
Skills/Availability Requirement: Punctuality and dependability are key to making Campus Kitchens a success. We depend on our volunteers to get things done. A good attitude is also important! In addition, having a vehicle available will be an asset for the food procurement and delivery shifts. Gas for these tasks can be compensated. Job coaches will help provide students with the necessary skills to make them employable after graduation from high school. Project Description: The Safe Exchange Program of Chippewa Falls offers a safe and neutral location for parents to exchange their children for visitation. The program was created to provide a non-stressful environment for both parents and children by using the Safe Exchange Staff as a third-party when exchanging children. Project Description: Service-Learning students will meet one-on-one with food pantry clients to assist them in applying for Food Share/Badger Care at least one day a week for 2-4 hours. Many families who are eligible for Food Share (food stamps) or Badger Care (health care) often face barriers and uncertainties when applying for federal aid. Service-Learning students will be placed at the Food Pantry to meet individually with clients to assist them in overcoming their barriers or to inform them about available federal programs. Students will gain an understanding of the Food Share and Badger care programs through a training provided by the City-County Health Department as well as employees at the Food Pantry. Students will be trained in and become familiar with the Access system. Students will also be provided with a resource manual to aid them in their work at the St. Francis Food Pantry.

Project Description: The role of the student volunteer is to provide transportation for persons with disabilities who have no other way of getting where they need to go. Once he or she is approved to be a volunteer driver, the student would respond to my call to transport an adult or child with any type of disability in their personal vehicle. The student will be reimbursed for mileage at the rate of $.585 a mile. Prior to providing this service, the student would undergo one hour of unpaid training/orientation with me. Also, the student would attend one larger group training session during each year. I would supervise the student by being available to discuss any questions the student might have as to how to best serve a specific individual with a specific disability.

Project Description: Citizen Action's "got healthcare?" campaign shows candidates for President, State Legislature, and Congress that Wisconsin wants bold action on the healthcare crisis. Citizen Action needs students to increase voter turnout as well as promote healthcare reform. By putting the issue of healthcare reform at the forefront of current political discourse, Wisconsin will come closer to fixing its broken healthcare system. Students will connect with members as well as other people in the community. The project may involve an array of activities including placing yard signs near homes, event promotion, helping with event set-up, and increasing voter turnout. There may be other activities that students can complete, which may become apparent later on.

Project Description: College Connections assistants in our adult classroom provide one-to-one help for adult students. Many students are learning English for the first time. Their primary languages are varied, including Spanish and Hmong. Other students whose primary language is English are preparing to take GED tests. Many are also developing computer skills or studying for citizenship. College Connections childcare assistants interact with children from 7 weeks through 3 years old in an early childhood education setting. All programs are supervised by professional staff.
Skills/Availability requirement: Classes meet Monday through Thursday mornings from 8:30-Noon and Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 - 3:30. Students may work one or more day per week. Hours can be shortened to fit college class schedules. Commitment for a full semester is preferred. Project Description: Bolton Refuge House is always in need of volunteers to assist our mission to aid victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault in many areas. The community has an ongoing need to provide a full array of support services/emergency services to victims. The areas we can use students' assistance include:Shelter/Phone Coverage: Provide phone coverage for non-crisis calls, take messages for all staff and clients, perform general custodial duties in shelter. Advanced trained volunteers: may provide supportive listening, phone coverage for crisis calls, and intake and discharge interviews with clients.
Clerical Support: Provide general clerical support--assist clients and/or staff with clerical needs, computer literacy preferred.
Maintenance: Assist with indoor and outdoor maintenance including mowing lawns, shoveling snow, etc.
Courtwatch: Observe domestic abuse trials and/or sexual assault trials and related proceedings. Report findings/decisions. We also need someone to compile information from the court calendar, so others know when cases are available to observe.
Sexual Assault Victim Services: Advocate/companion for victims of sexual assault in court, police interviews, transport clients for appointments and Hospital Advocacy for SANE exams. (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Advanced training required.
Transitional Housing Program: Work closely with clients in transitional living program and assist her/him with overcoming barriers to self-sufficiency including location of child care, housing, etc. Advanced training required.
Clothing Bank/Furniture/Household Donation Assistant: Organize the clothing bank for clients and set up times when a client can come in and look for clothing she/he is in need of. Assist with organizing what type of furniture/household items are currently available, what is needed, and monitor disbursement of items.
Children's Services: Assist with providing childcare and organizing activities, co-facilitate support groups, and provide transportation. May also volunteer with the daycare center as a teacher's aid, in curriculum planning, infant care, etc.
Children's Clothing Closet: Organize the children's clothing bank for clients and the daycare. Set up times when a client can come in and look for clothing she/he is in need of.
911 Phones: Organize the 911 telephones, take donated cell phones and wiped memory out to factory settings so they can be used as 911phones, and ship and package phones to recycling company.
Skills/Availability requirement:The shelter is open 24/7 so the opportunity to help is wide open-hours can be arranged to fit your schedule. No specific degree program is required for most of these opportunities, but those pursuing Social Work, Women's Studies, Psychology or Nursing degrees would probably find the experience most applicable to their course of studies. Training specific to the area you want to assist with will be provided. Punctuality/attendance according to the schedule you set up with us is greatly valued. Strict confidentiality regarding victims is required.

He needs people to read mail, newspapers, etc., to him. He is a retired superintendent of schools and a widower, so having contact with students means the world to him. Most of the students who have read to him in the past have continued doing so even after completing their required service hours. He is a friendly, delightful person who is very appreciative of the help he receives.

Project Description: We have a number of projects available from co-facilitating classes such as anxiety and depression, advocacy, vocation, and life skills classes to social groups such as games night, arts-n-crafts, chatter club. We have many opportunities to help students learn about and understand mental illness. The Wellness Shack, Inc. addresses the community need of peer support for individuals with mental illness. The student would be paired with a mentor or co-facilitator to assist with the project. He/she would present to the board what project he/she would like to participate in. The board votes on the project (this isn't as scary as it sounds!). The student would get one on one supervision/support from the "supervisor" to ask any questions, concerns, and yes, frustrations.
Skills/Availability requirement: The students will need to demostrate compassion, patience, and a willingness to learn about mental illnesses without judgement. We could work around the scedule of the student, but then expect responsibility, accountability, and positive role modeling.

The Family Support Center offers a women's support group for women affected by domestic violence. During this group, free child care is provided for the children; This component allows for the women affected by domestic violence to attend and receive support from others experiencing similar situations. Students may be asked to provide an activity for the children. This position is supervised by the women's support group facilitator. Students may be assigned other agency responsibilities per the facilitator.
Skills/Availability requirement: The requirements for this project include: being comfortable working and communicating with children, providing his/her own transportation to Chippewa Falls, WI., and the ability to physically get down and play at their level. We will conduct a background check on all interested students. Availability is every Tuesday evening.

Help is needed in basic supervision: getting speakers, giving rides, etc. Service projects and fundraiser help is also needed, that happen quarterly. The activity would take place beginning after the evening meal, starting at approximately 6:00 p.m. or approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Activity would consist of anything from storytelling or showing a movie, to performing a musical talent for a group of residents, some of whom may be cognitively impaired and some who would be alert and oriented. This programming would help fill a void we currently have in evening programming, and would also assist us in keeping residents meaningfully engaged in activities during later hours. Service providers work beside individuals with special needs. Service providers work in an atmosphere, which promotes appreciation for, and value of the difference between people.
Skills/Availability requirement: Volunteers need not have riding skills, but must be able to become comfortable working close to horses and persons with special needs.

Project Description: The Eau Claire YMCA works in conjunction with the school district to provide the community with Before and After School Child-Care program in nine area schools. The YMCA also offers a School's out-program to service the need for care when school is not in session. The YMCA is looking to hire responsible, committed, and creative staff to work the Before and After School Care and School’s Out program. The programs offer University students a chance to apply their education and gain experience working with children of various ages and backgrounds. Every new staff member attends a YMCA orientation to learn the philosophy, general procedures, what programs are being offered, and paperwork of the YMCA. The School Age Child Care has a separate orientation to familiarize the staff with forms, policies, guidelines, and expectations of the program.
