COME ONE, COME ALL!
THIS THURSDAY we will be having a Convention Paper Reading. If you are submitting anything for the National Convention, please bring a printed copy of your work so that your fellow STDers can help proofread your paper.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE SUBMITTING A PAPER TO COME. We encourage all members, regardless if you are submitting or not, to come and give feedback to others. The more the merrier! (and the better your paper will be). Plus, for those of you who are not yet National members, this can give you ideas on what to submit for next year!
See you on Thursday!

Happy October everyone!
First and foremost, let us all give a round of electronic applause for our newly elected officers!
Grant Butterfield and Anna Mae Tempus = Co-PR/Membership committee
Allie Krause = Treasurer
Kaitlyn Johnson = Web Manager
After the meeting, some of us put up posters for the Chippewa Valley Book Festival around Hibbard and in some dorms. We also discussed various on campus activities we could do in collaboration with the Fest.
The AAUW Booksale is coming up. What we do is help set up tables and lay out the books for the sale. We will be going on Wednesday, October 10, from 6-9 PM. You all can still sign up to come help. This is what we have so far for volunteers: see attachment
This is a great way to start to get in your five hours of service! Plus it's fun (and we get first look/pickings of the books!)
October 8-11 we will be reading and judging entries for the Chippewa Valley Writing Contest. You can come in at any time during the week to take a grade, read through, and judge them. There will be a box in the English office with all the entries and judging sheets and guidelines for judging.
That's all for now!
For those going to the Convention- please complete the online application form and ORSP form ASAP!!! You will not be reimbursed if you wait until after the convention to complete the forms. Note: You must complete the online application before you can fill out the reimbursement form. Contact Traci if you have any questions.
Honor's Banquet- Thank you, Stephanie for attending the informational meeting!
We updated the 2nd floor display case and 4th floor bulletin board. Thanks to all who helped out!
Instead of having the spring picnic this year, the English department will be having a formal celebration in Davies. More information to come.
Member Dues: If you haven't already, please pay your $5 to Melissa asap.
Greetings Sigma Tau Deltans! Minutes from our First General Meeting!

Hi Sigma Tau Deltans!
Here are the minutes from last night's meeting:
***IMPORTANT: If you were accepted to the convention, you MUST accept your acceptance in order to hold your place in the convention program. Do this NO LATER than THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10th! You should have gotten an acceptance email explaining how to do this, but the directions are also here: http://www.english.org/sigmatd/conv/index.shtml.
If you are compiling teacher email lists this weekend, make sure to email them to me as an excel document no later than Monday the 7th at noon. We need to send these out NOW!
Next Thursday, February 10th will be a meeting for convention-goers. This is a very important meeting because we need to fill out ORSP information. Be there or be square.
The general meeting we have planned for Thursday, March 3rd will be a chance for our convention-goers to practice presenting their papers. Even if you aren't presenting, be sure to come and give our presenters an audience and feedback!
Have a great weekend! :)

Better World Books
Let's go through 410 to box up and donate book to BWB. We discussed sending an email to the English faculty before doing so.
Induction Ceremony for New Members
December 2nd at 5pm. Cathy will try to reserve the Penthouse for this event. More to come on the pot luck for this event.
Convention Submission Meetings
Remember, paper submissions are due November 15th!!! Tania and others will be meeting next week Monday and Tuesday at 6pm in Davies by the coffee shop to look over papers and give feedback.
Next week: There will not be a general meeting, but convention-goers can bring submissions/scholarship applications to have looked at by our advisors and other members. If you aren't going to the convention, we could still use your suggestions for convention papers!
*There will be no conditional acceptances for paper submissions for the convention this year, so make sure you read the instructions for submissions carefully.
Read the Leadership Newsletter you received in your email a few days ago. There are lots of great articles in there, plus tips about submissions!
Enjoy your weekend! :)
Here are the minutes from last night's meeting. :)
Congratulations to our newly elected PR/Membership officer Caitlin Shuda!
The deadline for Sigma Tau Delta scholarships has been extended to November 21st. Apply for them!!
Check out the attached sign-up for the AAUW Book Sale set up/clean up. We do not have anyone signed up for Friday, October 8th (10am-12pm, 12pm-2pm). If you can make it to any shift, please reply to this email with the shift you'd like, your phone number, and if you have a car. We will put together a carpool list when all of the shifts are filled.
Tania suggested getting groups together outside of meetings to look over papers, scholarships, etc.
Our skit from last year's convention is up on our website, so make sure to check it out!
This year's common reader is Black Ice by Lorene Cary. Think about submitting a work about the common reader to the convention--you have a good chance of winning! If you have checked out a copy of the book and are finished with it, please return it to Traci or Cathy ASAP. Also let them know if you would like to put your name on a waiting list for a copy.
Remember to get your $5 for dues in to Melissa ASAP.
If you have any STD pictures send them to Tania for the website photo gallery!
Hello Sigma Tau Deltans!
Thanks for everyone who came to our first meeting of the semester--we had a great turnout! :)
Next meeting: Thursday, September 23rd at 5pm in the Kate Gill (I'll send a reminder and more details closer to this date)
Please remember to turn in your dues ($5) for the semester to treasurer Melissa Miller at our next meeting.
If you are interested in becoming a National Member of Sigma Tau Delta but did not sign the sign up sheet at last night's meeting, email one of our advisors ASAP-- Traci (thomastl), Cathy (rexcj), or Gloria (hochstgj). We have a new website design! Remember that this is a great source of information. Tania frequently updates upcoming events, meeting times/minutes, etc. Make sure to check it out! http://www.uwec.edu/sigtaude/
If you are interested in writing for our chapter's blog, contact our webmistresses Tania (richtetc) and Ashlyn (wellsa). Make sure to check out Sarah's first post! :)
Enjoy the weekend!
Thanks to everyone who could make to last night's meeting to preview our new website. It looks fantastic, Tania!
The website needs a photo gallery! If you have pictures from the convention or any other events, send them to Meredith (molnarmm).
Tania will take care of food for next week's meeting. Cheese, crackers, fruit, veggies, dessert, soda (diet coke/mountain dew).
This year we will only have officers meetings when necessary. The deadline for canceling an officers meeting will be Tuesday. Remember to get into the habit of replying to all emails so that everyone knows we're all on the same page. Don't forget to copy the advisors to all correspondence!
We discussed how to increase non-officer involvement. One way is to have a point person for each of our events.
Officers should look over their responsibilities on the W drive.
In order to get funding, convention-goers must submit a paper (not just a panel).
Re-recognition meetings will be attended by Kate C. and Amanda H.
If I missed anything, please feel free to reply all. Kristin C.-- You have a bunch of deadlines and important dates. Could you email us a list or get me a copy of them to send out to everyone? Thanks! :)
Have a great long weekend! :)
